Religion.
The reason it gives you a 'sublime and lasting peace' is because it tells you that there is a lovely idealised world up there for us to pass onto when we die.
The idea of not knowing what lies beyond this life TERRIFIES humans. Religion quells this terror through make believe stories. Much like fairy tales give children a fantasy world to believe in.
Why not break free and seek to find the TRUE MEANING OF LIFE?
You certainly won't find it within an institution designed to lull the human race into a false sense of security.

Pastor M.. :
So you think it is better to believe in something that you have no proof of just so you can find solace and not have to fear.
A cowards way out surely?

Life has no meaning.... and there is no truth either..... so the very notion of a "true meaning of life" is utterly hilarious and makes its claimant look absurd.

That aside.... I find it ironic that you would go on about terror in the face of the Unknown as even most athiests are afraid to stare straight into the Nihil.
Theists deny it completely, so stupid are they..... but how are athiests much better when they turn their backs on it and focus all their energies on the distractions of the trivial and transient?

You want to accuse people of being too afraid to face reality?
Then accept the reality that existence itself is without worth nor meaning.... that nothing any of us do counts for anything, that our whole lives are essentially a waste... and that all the labours of humanity are eventually going to come to naught when we all get wiped out by neutral causality.
Accept and be content that existence itself just -happens- with no beginning, no end, no purpose, no consequence.... and at best we are only an absolutely tiny part of it, even our supposed "free will" simply another part of the inevitable flow of existence.... and that it in turn is only a smattering of dust compared to the endless reaches of nothingness around.....

... and THEN you are in a better position to accuse the religious nuts of escapism.

I think the deeper question is "why should I believe this or that religion?"
This is the dilemma man is faced with when it comes to finding THE explanation or solution to life.
The fact is that life starts somewhere and ends somewhere.
You stated that humans are terrified of not knowing what lies beyond death and take solace in a belief system.
Personally, I would rather hope in some belief and be happy than to find the true meaning of life and live the rest of my days terrified not knowing what lies at the end.
I believe that man will not be satisfied with success but fulfilment.

So then, what matters?
You're just an accident right? Trillions of years worth of events all just happened to come together so that you could just walk around for no reason at all. Why do you care what others believe? In fact, why do you care about anything? Laws don't matter. Family doesn't matter. Love doesn't matter. Nothing matters.

Why don't you just steal what you want, kill who you hate, rape who you desire? If we're just an accident then there is no right and wrong.
You know better than that right? You know when something you're doing is wrong. It nags at you no matter how much you try to rationalize it or cover it up with lies. You know there is more. Be honest with yourself.

Pick up the Bible, not with an agenda or to disprove anything, but read it for what it is. A love letter to you.

I understand why the world turns against the Bible and God. It's because we are inundated with what is wrong and how bad we are. We all know what Christians hate. How many of us know what Christians love?
Real Christians...True Christians love you. We love you just the way you are. We may not like the way you live but we love you anyway.

There is more...you know it.

I agree entirely, how inadequate life would be really if all we did do was roam about the planet questioning our existence to place our trust in humans (solely science) and nothing divine. Just to simply live and die, it makes life seem worthless just living to procreate and then die. If this is the logic of which Atheists dwell on, then I'd rather die as an *** who has placed confidence in the divine than hope in humanity, my own fallibility, and someday spacecrafts to visit other beings; I am joyous whenever i consider eternity. Beats the hell out of the year 3090 when we shall evade the moon that i might see the other planets and beings eating purple cotton candy (they will be sooo like us, i wonder?) :)

The idea of an afterlife isnt completely that of bliss.

Most scriptures speak of hell fire for good reason.

Humans hurt one another more than any other creature, and when someone dies with crimes on his shoulders, he has gotten away with it all if he doesnt pay for it somehow.

Logic dictates that every thing you do, will find its reward or punishment. This is universal fairness. This is hope.

Whether you believe in it or not, Judgement Day is the day where everyone finds the result of their own actions on earth.

The victimized, the hurt, those who have never found recognition for their good deeds, will find it here.

And so will the criminals, who have committed crimes against man and non man, they will find their punishment as well.

Yanno, I was inclined to say i agree with every single solitary word in this statemnt, then i read it again, and a qestion came to mind, You seem very dedicated to your facts as u have presented them, You compare death to an idealized fairy tale, i really really inclined to agree with every syllable you said, but heres the question , How do you know ??

I can see truth.
Not your truth, apparently.
Can you see how many fingers I have on my left hand?
No?
So, you do not know the truth.
The answer is four.
I know that, because to me it is the truth.
Please don't bandy concepts like truth around as if they are an absolute. It only makes you look like you hold a very narrow view of the world.
And I'm sure that isn't the truth.
At least, for you.

Let me ask you something. Do you have anything behind your doorposts to remind you of deaths you feel complicit in? This could be turning your life into something private versus something public that is really a seeking to determine guilt ALL THE TIME. Of course, feelings stay with you but you don't need the reminders of implied guilt continuing in your life. Don't give signficance to those things. It also could be things you keep in your mouth because your lips are doorposts too. They represent doorways of opportunity in your life that you're scared of going through without checking that you're still trying to figure out if you're guilty or not. You might be scared of the real murderer/s.

I disagree. Did you know that scientists have discovered codes in the Bible that have predicted the future accurately. Like the assignation of Sadat and the year it would be done. The two Kennedy assignations, the Iraq war naming Husein and his capture.
There are hundreds of these codes in the Bible.
These codes were put in the Bible and can only be decoded by computers using the 10 word Matrix system, although they were written 3,000 years ago. They were meant for this generation of technology.
