It is possible that the U.S. military and the government prefers NOT to show those horrible images, since the last time those type of images were shown during the war in Vietnam (especially those shown during the urban fighting of the Tet Offensive in Saigon and Hue) it was partly responsible for turning many Americans off - from the horror of war and from supporting their government's role in that conflict. As for the children, that is no reason not to show the ugly images of war - the majority of people who watch the news are 18 years of age or older. I for one do not believe in sheltering children, the children of Iraq and the Sudan see it everyday.

I know what you mean. In comparison to the Vietnam war, which showed a lot of brutal and honest images of the war, the current media self censorship is infuriatingly painting a rosier picture of the invasion of Iraq.
You do not see the brutality suffered by the troops.
You do not see the plight of the Iraqis.
You don't see the exodus of the Iraqi refugees.
Honesty is the only way to help the situation.
You don't fabricate pictures or news; you don't censor bad news just to make everything appear A-OK.
Because it's far from okay.

Don't be too upset. They didn't show the Americans getting their heads sawed off on t.v. either.
I think the media is doing an outstanding job misreporting the war and underplaying the achievements of our troops. The fact that they are letting the families of the fallen off easy by not showing them maimed and dead is obviously the work of Karl Rove.

Because the large mass of Americans is slumbering over the real cost of this war, in human life, suffering and money.
There are a small % actually impacted, and the rest don't really want to think about it on a day to day basis.

Ever since the media was charged with exploiting this kind of journalism back in the 60s for their disgusting photos showing our men being put into body bags in the Viet Nam war it has been rather taboo to do this.
It they would do it now millions of people would descend upon Washington DC and hang Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld from the highest tree available!

The purpose of terrorism is to bring terror which can be done by publishing graphics with explicit contents. If the media posted such graphics, ther is no need for the terrorists to take time capturing images and posting. If the media would show such graphics, the terrorists already succeeded in its goal which is to bring terror.
Don't tell me it ain't scarry. I've watched beheadings done by a comb in the net and its nasty! Hard to get used to. Been watching for years now and still scares me. Why am I watching it? just curious.

Blood drives. Rebuilt towns and neighborhoods. Water pipelines. The news media focuses only on the negative and leaves the good stuff in the dust. The last thing people want to see right now is maimed corpses. If you like that stuff, go watch some of the video games they hand out to little kids these days like GTA.

You know it's going on don't you, then why do you have to see it. I think you got it wrong though, the media never shows the good things that we do, such as rebuilding Afganistan. WHY DONT THEY SHOW THAT?
