I have a 3 year old toy poodle who is not spayed.
For the past few days she has been driving us crazy, whining and whinging and pretending her stuffed toys are her 'puppies'.
She is constantly whinging and whining with the toy in her mouth and scratching (nesting).
What can we do to calm her down in this false pregnancy to help her cope? It's been the second day she's done this and already we are stressing out! She just won't stop!
HELP!!!

Thankyou for all your answers. Yes, we are going to spay her but obviously you can't de-sex during heat and she can't stop whining and whinging with they toy 'puppy' in her mouth. We cannot sleep and she constantly does it! The only way is to make her sleep by tiring her out.
Any ideas on how to stop her whining?

Our puppy did this and we gave her some small stuffed animals from the carnival (little dollar game prizes) and a tennis ball she kept them all with her for about 2 weeks then she would go on to something else this would happen every so often, she would only whine little bit most of the time she would just lay with them near her belly and sleep

Spay your dog.
If you are stressed how do you think she feels.
From the fact that she is having false pregnancies and doing all the stuff to go along with that you can tell she is stressed out.
Heat makes them crazy if they can not get to breed. Some dogs are worse than others. Yours must be one of those who has a hard time with the heat cycles. Do her a favour and have her spayed.

Yup!
what you want to do is to set up a whelping box, and gather the stuffies that she considers her pups and put her and the stuffies in the box.
My girls go into false pregnancy quite often. We use a kiddie pool for the real and imagined whelping. this normally settles them down some.
If you have an X-pen make a large circular area with it, put some old blankets or towels in it, and put her and them in it.
The reason she is whining is that she has no secure place to put her pups and she is looking to you for guidance.

Are you sure she's not pregnant? If you're certain she's not, it is a false pregnancy, fairly common in dogs.
I'm not sure spaying her will eliminate the problem, either. I seem to recall having a spayed female many years ago that had false pregnancies. She was the best mother dog ever. She loved caring for her pups, and raised 13 one time. Had her spayed after 4th litter. she still wanted puppies. LOL

This is obviously very very hard for your sweet doggie! You are doing the right thing in getting her spayed and you will be lenghthening her lifespan at the same time. Spayed and neutered dogs do live longer healthier lives.

I don't think the dog is having a false pregnancy, it may just be in heat. Female dogs act strange when in heat and tend to behave like your dog is behaving. Take her to the vet., they can determine what is the matter. Why take chances.

Is she around another dog who is in heat or pregnant? Sometimes when you have more than one female they go through false heats and pregnancy together, almost like a sympathy kind of thing! The only thing you can really do is let her be a mommy to her toys and try to stay relaxed. She should come out of it soon enough! Good Luck!

You can have her spayed while she is in heat. She is miserable. It's not her fault but you need to help her. She is just being over lovable because she is in heat, not necessary because she thinks they are pups. Good luck

Is she bleeding?? If so, definitely in heat. Your vet can give you pills to shorten her heat cycle if you want to spay her. The only thing about those pills if they make for very irregular heat cycles if you don't spay her. Good luck!
