i've cooked in a restaurant for ten years and i've never seen this. however, you should bear in mind that if you send food back for dubious reasons or are rude to your server they will not protect you from the cooks.
for example if an entree were to be of less than stellar quality, be it a smaller than usual steak or if it were to accidentally fall on the floor, they might insist that you discard it because they want to take care of their valued guests. if they don't like the customer they will make comments like "i hate these people, send out whatever you want."

I'm sure that you can find cases where that has happened or maybe something worse then "Spit"? I guess we have to trust that the majority of people in food service are above that sort of behavior...

I hope not! I am always worried that when i send my food back that they will. Hopefully there is cameras in the back so they would not try something so stupid!

revenge is sweet only if the customer knows what is going on. one of my customers reduced one of my waitress's to tears once, he was director of the firm that were having the meal so none of his staff would say anything to him. i got him in to a position whereby he had to eat a large portion of a currie that i used to make for two regular customers, it was so hot that bacteria would not breed in it so it could live in the fridge for weeks, he was, as a result, very apologetic, left a large tip and he always behaved himself afterwards.

yes, i have before. but not because you sent it back because you were mean to one of my girls that had nothing to do with cooking your food. ive done worse too

ive worked in restaurants and never seen it happen. however, im sure at some places have had incidents of this happening. for the most part, you are safe though
