Not wanting to get into any fights here...just curious how momons can base their beliefs on a man claiming to have been give a new gospel when the Bible clearly teaches against even the idea of such a thing.

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

As a young boy in 1820, Joseph Smith wanted to know which church was true. As he searched the Bible for help, he read that he should ask of God. Acting on this counsel, Joseph went into the woods near his home and prayed. Suddenly, a light shone above him and Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him. When Joseph asked which church he should join, the Savior told him to join none of the churches then in existence because they were teaching incorrect doctrines. Through this experience and many others that followed, the Lord chose Joseph to be His prophet and to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Church to the earth.
For a testimony of the restored gospel to be complete, it must include a testimony of Joseph Smith's divine mission. The truthfulness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rests on the truthfulness of the First Vision and the other revelations the Lord gave to the Prophet Joseph. President John Taylor, the third President of the Church, wrote, "Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it" (D&C 135:3).
You are correct, it is against the will of God to preach a different gospel. But, we believe it is the RESTORED gospel, not different. We believe in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. We believe each testify of the other and that the gospel is not complete without the use of all of those sacred texts.

There is no "new" gospel. It's the same gospel of Jesus Christ as there always was.

Paul was speaking about the "gospel of circumcision", that some saints, especially those who were also Pharisees, claimed that the only way Gentiles could become Saints was to adhere to the law of Moses, which included their ritual circumcision.

I am actually curious why they keep our Bible in addition to the words of John Smith... really. Living in western Colorado growing up, this is what Mormon friends told me:

They are taught that god was actually a man in another star system - brought to earth , allowed to marry (I think god's wife was someone named Catherine...) and have two sons - Satan and Jesus. ...And through his elightenment this man became our god and was elevated. ...So too, are men allowed to besome elevated and work toward their own godhood.

So... How can they then read our Bible (often only allowed to read KJV) and even imagine that Smith's version is true in any way? ...I just don't see how they don't conflict -- to a Mormon.

Sigh. Peace.

so true and they also think Jesus is satans brother-and that you get a warm feeling means you got the right religion well satan comes as the creature of light and can give feelings.l

if you stand by someone who is going against Him-you got the problem
being in hell for a day-that would change ones whole life-to come to salvation & pray more for those lost -not to go to gnashing teeth torment forever for rejecting the one that would love them forever=Revelation 19-22nd chapters Jesus describes the joy of salvation and heaven to come, and the agony of damnation.

as I share Jesus with my Jewish people and others "He will be marred more than any man and lay down his life as a lamb to make atonement for our sins." Isaiah 52:13-53:12 -I said well you must be seeing something I havent even said a name -and others here are saying I am teaching about Jesus and am wrong--how can you be wrong reading the word of God??

-i once prayed and let Jesus comfort me-"Jesus help me, thank you that you love me no matter what, come into my heart, I am sorry for my sins against you, not believing and even telling one lie, help me do better and be my friend, amen."

Jesus said "I love you and knock to come into your heart door, forgive for sins and be your friend, if you ask me in." Revelation 3 vs 19&20

now Jesus helps me alot and He is my best friend.

have a good day and praying for you too, David

The only time I've ever heard of LDS was in Star Trek IV, the voyage home.. Capt. Kirk got the terminology LSD mixed up, and said LDS..As far as the Bible is concerned, that is the biggest lot of claptrap ever unleashed upon mankind.. Only the weak minded believe so vehemently in such faerie tales.. Blessed Be .. )O(
