I think they don't want you to use it because you might fall in the rest room and get hurt. Which makes total sense. Take offs and landings take just a minute or two... if your worried about it just don't drink anything an hour before take off or landings you will be fine.

Takeoff and landing are of such short duration that nobody should be in this situation. If you take your seat needing to go that bad it is poor planning, not the rules that are going to get your seat wet.

.01 there is some talk that as it is dropped over the atlantic or wherever when at altitude that if you use it while taking off it will sit on the runway? but,I don`t have proof it was just hearsay!

well.you may fall..and hurt yrself and sue them. American are rather lawyer happy...so it totally removes and risk. Also, if it goes pear shape..it easier to escape from yr seat than a locked toilet

hahaha good question!
i guess the only way to find out is unbuckle your seatbelt and head off to the lav, only to be stopped by a crew member, to which you reply "mr brown's at the window" or something of that extent. i would like to know the outcome!

te reason is safety all passengers and crew have to be in their seats bucked up if you need to go that urgent i am sure you can use the sick bag.
