Most likely it is a combination of not doing the things that you did before, (whatever type job you had), allowing your sleeping schedule to dictate your life. The best thing you can do is to find an activity to take the place of your old job, and get your schedule back on track, and try to not be stressed about a job so much, I know its not easy, but if you fill your day with mental and physical tasks, you will go to bed tired, not board, and sleep, soon after your schedule will be back

Stress in any way can affect your life I have problems sleeping as well. Here are some tips avoid caffeine, do not sleep during the day, exersise regularly, go to sleep and wake at the same time every night, do not just lie in bed though if 20 minutes pass get up do something until you feel sleepy again. Seems like you are just having stress but you may want to talk to your doctor about it if you do not have one then there over the counter sleep aids Tylenol PM works for me, I have built up a resistance to powerful anti-psychotic medications , anti-anxiety meds, ambien is a perscription sleep aid it works. Just relax and enjoy being young

1. Set a rigid sleep schedule seven days a week.=To help achieve that goal, try to get to bed at the same time each night.
2.Dont waste your time in bed.=Go to bed when youre sleepy but remember:Always wake up at the same time in the morning.
3. Set aside some quiet time before bed.=Reflect on the days activities and try to put them into some perspective. Review your stresses and strains, as well as your problems. Try to work out solutions. Plan tomorrows activities. This exercise will help clear your mind of the annoyances and problems that might keep you awake once you pull up the covers.
4. Dont turn your bed into an office or a den.
5. Avoid stimulants after twilight.
6. Say no to the nightcap.=Avoid the alcohol at dinner and throughout the rest of the evening.
7. Question your medications.=Certain medications such as asthma sprays can disrupt sleep.
8. Examine your work schedule.=Try to get a steady shift and avoid swing shifts or irregular schedules.
9. Eat a light snack before bedtime=Bread and fruit will do nicely an hour or two before you hit the hay. So will a glass of warm milk.
10.Create a comfortable sleep setting.
11. Turn off your mind.=Keep yourself from rehashing a stressful day of worries by focusing your thoughts on something peaceful and nonthreatening.
12. Use mechanical aids. =earplugs to block out sound, eyeshades to screen out unwanted light or electric blanket to keep you warm.
13. Learn and practice relaxation techniques.
14. Take a hike.=Get some exercise late in the afternoon or early in the evening- a walk around the block will do just fine.
15.Try sex before bedtime.
16. Take a warm bath.

Yes it is. You could be under stress for loosing your job. Some people are stressed when they loose something they think is important to them.

I used to work in graveyard shifts (7pm to 7am). Therefore I need to stay awake on my off days and switch over to night shift on my working days.
I am able to sleep using the following:
- melatonin : I took 1-2mg. I have colleagues that take up to 6 mg. The average is about 3mg. This is non additive. Another point is melatonin need no doctor's prescription. You can read more from this site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/melatonin.....
I have even read from books on melatonin that it is an anti-aging pill. Not bad. You sleep and stop growing old.
- use lavender aromatherapy. Lavender smell help me to sleep after a night shift.
Some addition tips I used
- The most important rule is not to force yourself to sleep.
- Get a boring book with a topic you want to learn. Read until you are ready to sleep. Listen to classic music as you read.
- No activity before you sleep. Avoid watching movies, reading ghost stories, pillow fights, exercising.
- Keep the clock as far away as possible. The ticking make you even more afraid and awake.

properly in my case i replaced into clinically determined a intense manic depressant which contributed to insomnia and habit. i ultimately asked for help and replaced into prescribed Zoloft and Trazadone. The longest I ever stayed up with out drugs or alcohol replaced into 12 days rapidly. if your something like me take prescription drugs yet i'm a notably intense case.

You're probably suffering some short-term depression.

See your family physician about it.
