errors:
Catholics do not believe that we can pray for a person to get out of hell. Not possible. Once you're in Hell, it's permanent.
Catholics do not worship idols/statues. We only worship God.
As far as everything else, I'd suggest you look up the history of the Church to learn more about Her teachings and practices if you haven't already done so.
God bless.

On a serious note, it's not only that. They both have a similar history in using geometry to explain faith. Well a lot of religions have a similar concept of the "cog" and "Wheel". THe cog is the equivalent to their god, and the wheel is the universe. Their explanation with geometry is that religion is and faith is like the center of the wheel.
Hence the saying... Find your inner peace... 1 is the prime number where it is perfect. 2 = dia also gives meaning to division and diablo (devil). The message is that if you stray from the one, you get disconnected. The only way to reach your center is to pray.
People go around in circles or cycles which never end. The only way to not keep moving around in cycles is to go to faith. They say if you are looking for something to believe in, you find nothing. If there is nothing, you'll find something. Well this priniciple is exploited in mostly all relgions because look at Christians... the "veil"... catholics also use the "veil", hindus use the metaphor in some of their sacred temples where on the left there is nothing, and when you look right, there is something. The principles are there.... but just reworded.

-they both believe they can pray for people to get out of hell
where did you get that from?. The uncle of our Prophet who PROTECTED him is thought to be in the hell fire because he did not believe in one God and no one can rescue him.
- They both fought in the crusades (against each other)
Is this a Similarity? So the US, UK and France are similar to the Nazi!!!!
- persecute people who turn from their religion ( Catholics don't do this anymore but who can forget the inquisitions)
Okay
- Muslims don't bow to idols but can bowing to a house and kissing a stone (Mecca) be called idolatry?
“bowing to a house” never looked at it that way before!!. We BOW only to God, you think we bow to the house it is your choice. As for the stone, yes we kiss it but we know it is only a stone and we do that just because our Prophet(PUH) did it.
God (Allah) bless

i noticed the similarity but, stone in Mecca is not islam idol. Islam doesn't have an idol. we pray straight to Allah. most rules such as veil followed by most muslim's woman but not followed by christian's woman.
the 5 pillars in islam is
1. say "no God except Allah and Muhammad is Allah messenger"
2. Pray five times a day
3. charity
4. fasting
4.pilgrimage to Mecca

There are many similarities among Judaism, Christianity and Islam because Abraham is the patriarch of all three.
PS your point about praying someone out of hell is theologically incorrect.

Sure, what is your point? I dont think this is at all amazing. Study world religions and you'll see lots of overlap.
Some of your information is dated and overly simplified but basically any organized religion will reflect human tendencies, desire for structure, order, comfort zones, ritual and reactiveness to threats from outside the structure. That is human nature.

Excellent catch zotta1, many people over-look the similarity.
In fact, Mohammed took these concepts from Catholisism when he was founding Islam.
Ever heard of the pillars of Islam? They where taken from religeons of the orient.

Hi 2 all (salam)
Actually all religions say one thing and the God is the same but followers think their God is another one and others are different.
Mohammad (pbuh) did not come to refuse Jesus or moses ...Abraham or...but he just came to invite people to what all others said before him in the best form as jesus says about similar things for moses in Gospel.
so it is quite normal to see similarities between religions especially Abraham religions(Islam, christianity and judaism).but differences are mainly due bias in following the true message of holy prophets and we followers of different religions think that each one is absolutly true and others absolutly wrong.
was between muslims and christians is not similarity.
2nd muslims never bow to anything but ALLAH almighty who is the greatest. that Kaaba in Mecca is just a symbol we believe established by ADAM and renewd by Abraham and his son Ismaiil and just we pray toward Kaabah for unity and unification of Islam nation what ever we are (black,white,yellow,indian.....)
paraying for dead persons is just to ask GOD bless them if not we are responsible for what we do in this world and in the day of judgement nothing will be considered but our actions in this world(refer to Al-Najm Soureh)and in that Soureh GOD warns about what u think we believe to christians who believe it especially in case of believe Jesus was sacrified himself for forgivness of human sins.
U see judging is not easy who is similar and who is different but one thing:
ALL monotheist religions say one thing the only difference is the the way to reach that and our interpretation of that.
==================
I also would like to remind my muslim brother that that uncle of prophet was muslim and never told Qoraysh to save his position for helping prophet and also prophet's family were all follower of ABRAHAM who is called muslim in Qoran and in general meaning of islam(fully submitance to God)all true followers of Abraham religions are muslim but with different levels of Islam.remember in Qoran NOAH says I am the first muslim.
God bless ALL
