Just get yourself an Ipod with ear phones to listen to your music. Respect your parents for wanting you to listen to their music, sometime parents can be old fashion. Remember, you are living under their house with their rules, so obey them as well.

No one has to like what you listen to or do period. Respect it...I don't really thing they are disrespecting it. It is just music and everyone is entitled to their opinion on it. They are your parents, it is not the music you are respecting...it is them. I don't care how much I hated my moms music...I never told her to turn it off because it was her house and I respected that. When she told me to turn my music of because it was garbage, I did or turned it down so she couldn't hear it. You need to respect what your parents do and say in their house, as long as it is not harming anyone. You will have your own place one day that you can do whatever the heck you want to in. Hang in there. It isn't that big of a deal.

for years and years and even longer than that, parents and teens (for the most part) havent seen eye to eye on music.
I remember back in the 80s and my mom used to tell me that Duran Duran was evil. and wow when rock music first came out, Adults hated it. you really cant forse someone to like the music that you like. Its your oppinion. I guess you could sit down with them and say, you know, I really like this music. It makes me feel good because.... then your communicating with them, they might then try and look at it from your perspective (that doesnt mean that they will like it) they will know what you like about it. As far as them being able to listen to their music, Well It is their house, they do pay the bills. I think that gives them the right to choose the music they want. Just leave the room if it bothers you.
good luck, and get some head phones.

This is simple It is their house and their rules. Until you are old enough to move out you will just have to deal with it. I cannot stand rap music. It is so bad and profane. Some of the other music of today is ok. I like rock and roll. Give me some Beatles or some Elvis.

well it depends what kind of music you listen to...for all we know it could be crap so i wouldnt put it past him. However i would like to know what your dad listen's to as well.
IF you actually do listen to good music you could sit your rents down and let them listen to it and explain why it means something to you...also explain to them about the cutural references behind it. Where does it come from. Not everyone likes the same music so you both just gotta deal with it. Sperate stereo's help
...if you listen to a bunch of emo crap and pop junk then sorry your on your own hun.

depending on what you listen to. i had the same problem with my parents. if the music has vulgarities in it, you dont really have much of a chance here.
make sure the music is clean/edited. i wouldn't want my kid listening to "fxck these fxcking fxcks" in a song. nor would you (should you have kids). dont play it loud. give them some time to get used to the music you like. also pick your times to play the music. and give it some time. it wont happen over night.
on one of my last times home with my parents i played korn and jay-z, and they didnt say much. their only compliant wasnt the music, it was the occasional cursing.

Will it be possible to listen to your music via iPod, MP3 or something so that you don't annoyed your parents and at the same time while listening to your music you don't have to listen to theirs?

Well does your music have offensive language and lyrics if so its gonna be hard to change their minds. If not then talk to them tell them what you like about it explain the beat or what some of the lyrics mean to you or how you love the vocals. They don't have to like it but if you know what you like and explain why you like it they may have more respect for it.

I think they should respect whatever you like to listen to. The only way I can see them objecting is if it were really sexual, profane, or vulgar. But that still doesn't mean you don't have the right to listen to what you like.
