I was diagnosed about a year ago with hypo-thyroidism and was put on Synthroid.

The problem is, I am beginning to feel like I have no energy again. (even though they have upped my dosage of synthroid) I have to sleep so much, I can't get school work done, and just in general do not feel well at all. I also seem to catch viruses and infections very easily, I've had bronchitis 3 times in the last year and recurring bladder infections, I've been having them from the middle of December to right now.

I went to an endocrinologist Friday and when he examined my thyroid gland, he felt something on the right side of it, so I had to get a lot of bloodwork done and am scheduled to get an ultra-sound next week.

What are the chances of having thyroid cancer, would they call me back if the blood results were abnormal or just wait until I go for my ultra-sound? Sorry I guess I'm just scared = ( If anyone has any idea what's going on, any feedback would be great, thanks...

it could be any thing sweet heart and more than likely it is not serious. I would say you probably have some immune system problems. You should take olive leaf daily and exercise heaps. I know it is hard when you are tired but you really will feel heaps better.

I had thyroid cancer. It was found after I found a swollen lymph node in my neck and I was suffering from fatigue. If it is cancer, with the exception of a rare type of thyroid cancer it is treatable with a 99% success rate. They would remove the thyroid. The hardest part of recovering was taking synthroid for me.

Some people get a goiter (lump in thyroid) when their thyroid is underactive. Sometimes raising your dose will take care of that.

It is not unusual, for a thyroid gland, to be enlarged, in primary hypothyroidism, e.g., goiter. I wouldn't think, cancer to be an issue. Generally, cancer is associated with the hyper function of an endocrine gland.

Please, don't get yourself upset, rather, educate yourself at the following website :http://highwire.stanford.edu/. It is a good source, for any and all medical information.

my mom's also hypothyroid. she first had ultrasound of her thyroid gland before having thyroid biopsy (coz ultrasound revealed thyroid nodules). i think the blood work ups u mentioned were to determine your thyroid hormones (FT3,FT4,TSH). my moms TSH was elevated so she's hypothyroid.

anyway, the doctor needs to do biopsy on your thyroid to determine if the nodules are benign or malignant (unless the bloodwork that u said will be sufficient in determining if you have thyroid cancer or not; or u will not go through this if there were no thyroid nodules found on your ultrasound report).

the thyroid biopsy is called fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of the thyroid gland. the aspirated specimen will be examined. my mom had FNAB last year. cytology report said specimens aspirated from her thyroid nodules were benign. it was a relief. the doctor explained that most thyroid nodules are benign. the biopsy done to her was just confirmatory or to relieve our worries. i hope your tests will reveal pleasant results.
