I have vitamin B12 deficiency and have started getting b12 shots from my doctor - I feel better but I would prefer an oral supplement - Does any one know if oral B12 is as effective as the shot?

Vitamin B-12 is absorbed with the aid of a substance known as intrinsic factor. Intrinsic factor is responsible for getting the vitamin B-12 from the stomach into the blood. So, if you are taking vitamin B-12 shots, your intrinsic factor is not functioning properly, and oral supplements would be useless because the vitamin wouldn't be absorbed.

Oral B12 is not absorbed into the body well - therefore is not effective. The best solution is either a vitamin B12 shot/ injection or the B12 Patch - transdermal vitamin b12. The B-12 Patch is highly effective and does not have the same absorption problems as oral b12. You can find more detail at their site http://www.b12patch.com

Hi Julian. Medical studies indicate that most people can effectively correct their B12 deficiency with very high oral doses of B12. You want to take 1000 micrograms of B12 orally on a daily basis.

It would be wise to periodically check your B12 status to be sure you are doing well.

Best wishes and good luck.

Oral nutrition B12 could be triumphant in case you are able to take up it properly. maximum uncomplicated rationalization for B12 deficiency is absence of intrinsic element it incredibly is secreted through the digestive equipment. it incredibly is definite with nutrition B12 and basically then nutrition B12 could be absorbed.

If you have pernicious anemia, you do not absorb B12. If you do not have pernicious anemia, your doctor is just making money with the shots, since that is the only indication for it.

I have the same problem, I think that the body would absorb it better if you were to stick with the injections. talk to your doctor if there are any other choices out there. If it were me, I'd stay with the injections. *ouch*
