Is it unusual for a shy and introverted person like myself to have tattoos? I have one covering most of my upper arm, and I'm planning to get the other arm done soon. Just thought I'd ask to see what peoples stereotypes of tattooed people are.

Stereotypes are for the lazy (not meant as a dis on you, btw). For example, one is that tattooed people don't make much money and have crappy jobs. My last question, and I admit this is partially intentional, helped put that one to rest. At least one or two of the responders are comfortably into 6 figures & most had very successful careers (at least those of the age where such happens).

The same can be said for being an extrovert versus an introvert.

I am the same way shy and introverted, and I have now 3 tattoos and going to get my 4th, people are surprised to see that I of all people would have one, being the way that I am, they are great conversations pieces when I am in the right mood to chat with people, they are special to me they all meant something and I wouldn't t trade them for anything. It is surprising however how people I have known for years look at me differently now, I am still quiet so my personality hasn't changed at all

I understand your plight. I also suffer from debilitating social anxiety, but I have a full back piece and some on my legs. I hate it when people get tattoos to just show them off (for example: barbed wire around the arm). Tattoos should be personal and meaningful. Mine don't see the light of the sun very often but when they do I don't mind letting people look. I think about how they are concentrating more on the artwork than my body. I know its hard to change your way of thinking, but by getting tattoos and having the courage to walk into the shop and go under the needle, you probably have more courage than most of those people out there that may be socially adept but afraid of needles. Just think of yourself as coming out ahead when the world ends. There will be a lot of pain but a lot less people. Peace.

no. the tattoos may just be a means of self expression that is easier for a shy and introverted person.

According to the common stereotypes, that I don't think anyone believes in anymore, tattoos are for convicts and gang bangers. But present day all types of people get tattoos for all different reasons so it's not as easy to stereotype it. Look at all the different people that go on Miami Ink and get tattoos, they are from all types of different walks of life.

I'm very introverted and on the shy side and I have tattoos, so you're certainly not the only one!

No its not unusual. I don't recommend tattoos to anybody and I am strictly against it but I am fine if people are interested in getting it. Anyway, you really didn't ask for any kind of advice on getting it or not, so people have this "thing" to express themselves through tattoos and stuff and it doesn't matter if you are extrovert or not. One might just want to do it for himself.

I just got a tattoo. I'm pretty conservative, middle class, good job, innocent looking. So yeah I prob don't fit the stereotype either. I like that I don't. I think it makes people think twice about you if they think you are a goody goody yet see a little tattoo : ) I love my tattoo : ) I think it depends on the tattoo. Mine is a simple outline of a star, in black, on top of my foot.

I'm one of those people.

I had always wanted one.

I have three.

Mine are on my legs, so I can show them when I want to, but cover them up when I need to.

I sometimes get weird looks when I tell people I got tattoos, or they see then. But I don't care, it's something I like. So stuff 'em.
