I got a ticket for Following too Closely w/ and accident, and got something from DMV in the mail saying I must attend a driving class or else my liscense would get supsended. I attended the class, but I was wondering, since It was manditory for me to take the class, will the offence be taken off my record, or at least not get the points since I did go to the class? (Virginia, chesapeake circuit traffic court)

Also that was my first ticket I have ever gotten, so I had no other tickets

I think that typically if you go to the class it is not on your record if you go for two years (I think) without another ticket. IF you get another ticket, they both will show up. So it is almost like you are on probation instead of it just being wiped off your record. I don't know for sure about Virginia, but I've gotten tickets in AZ and IL and, although the requirements were different (IL is Court supervision-you just pay more, AZ is traffic school) the end result was different. Since I got a second ticket, its on my record now...

If I recall correctly, any time you attend traffic school, you add positive points to your record. If that is correct, it would stand to reason that you would counter at least some of the negatve points from the offense. The offense won't actually be taken off your record, and you can only carry a balance of five positive points.

Of course, it's been 10 years since I too driver's ed in VA.
