Pixels and Brands are the most things people look at when buying a camera. Surly higher pixels means better quality and making the picture bigger is easier. I have a 3.0 MP Canon camer and i have taken grate professional pictures with it i swear you would think I have a $1200 Camera. Anything from 2-4MP is good for anyone. I also think Canon is the best brand to buy simply cause Canon is pretty much strictly a Camera manufacture. What you are looking to buy is fine, but for everyday pics, i wouldn't spend over $200

Action needs strong light (not indoor arenas, sorry, it will be blurred) and YOU must be able to set the camera for a higher ISO to get faster shutter speeds (ISO400 is usually the best).
Best camera I can recomend for the price is the Kodak 875 with 5x Zoom 8 MP, big screen, full size videos, Schnider Krusenach lens, $200.

There are so many! A quick answer would be the Fuji F20 for $150.
But, there is a complete spectrum of types of cameras. Compact, Digi-Cam, DSLR, from prices of $90 to $9,000.
It would be good to use the tools at www.dpreview.com to get down to the camera you like. There are probably 40 criteria for cameras, only you can decide what's more important for you.

Insufficient data for meaningful answer.
It's a fiercely competitive industry and there are many great products out there. They all take still photos and movies, and all take great quality images.
so- we need to know some more information in order to recommend a camera.

Film format or digital? Don't do Nikon. I used to be their best customer. They have taken a tailspin. Go with Canon. Fuji makes great inexpensive digital cameras. Digital Fuji is the best bang for the buck starting out. Kodak is great too. I used to work for them before the digital switch and they make great digital cameras.

The New kodak 7.1 MP camera is amazing! you can spin in a circle as fast as you can and it will still take a still, crisp picture. Amazing, I wouldn't recomend anythig else!
