You are NOT over weight. Don't waste your money on beverages that offer no nutritional value!!! Drink water and lots of juices, they will make you feel better and give you better energy. Watch the added sugars though! Natural is the best way to go! You will only gain weight if your caloric intake exceeds your caloric consumption.

Since diet pepsi has no calories, stopping it will not help you lose weight on the caloric merit.
HOWEVER, caffeine is an appetite stimulant. So, in theory, lose the caffeine, you might be a little less hungry. Little less hungry, you might eat a little less, and so on...........
Another reason to stop is the fact that they are loaded with sodium. Bad for the blood pressure and also makes you retain water, so you might have more bloat than you realize.
On that note, if you love them that much, don't go cold turkey off them. When you want one, have a glass of water instead, the next time, have the diet pepsi. Take turns.
Also, caffeine withdrawal sux! if you are a true addict (pepsi) wean yourself off it.

Most diet sodas have caffeine and aspartame included. Your body, rightfully so, views these ingredients as drugs. This most likely leads to excess water weight.

I read once, that when someone ingests food or any substance the body feels is unhealthy on a regular basis, the immune system, will coat the cells, organs, etc with excess fluid to prevent them from being harmed, or to slow down the speed of deterioration. Something to consider.

By the way, I personally dropped 20 lbs just by eliminating sugar and caffeine, without exercise, or changing any other part of my diet. It just disappeared.

Drinking diet soda does not cause weight gain, cause there are no calories in the soda. However, Caffeine can stimulate the appetite and make you feel hungry and therefore more likely to gain weight by eating. You might loose weight if you cut out caffeine but not likely if you don't eat any less or exercise more.
By Body Mass Index you are healthy and not over weight or under weight. Your BMI is 22.1 which is normal. Greater than 25 is considered over weight. 30 or greater is considered obese.

I think that the biggest concern here is whether the 5 to 10 pounds that you may or may not be over weight is fat or muscle? Too many people judge, if they are over weight or not, purely by the number on the scale. Fat is not as dense as muscle (muscle weighs more) so if you have more muscle you may not be as over weight as your weight may indicate. I am not a big fan of diets. Too many people either starve themselves or just don't get the proper nutrients they need to strive & survive. I feel the best way to lose weight without jepardizing your health is to eat in moderation & perform some sort of excersize daily. It may be as simple as walking or as advanced as aerobics or a sport. If you haven't had an active lifestyle you do not want to jump right into anything too vigorous. Start off slow & work your way up. You don't want to hurt yourself. try to cut down on the fatty foods & sugary foods. Another thing you may want to do is measure your waist at the belly button, hips, & anywhere else you feel you need to work on & keep a chart of the measurements on a weekly basis. It may help you to stay motivated to get to where you want to be. Keep your expectations realistic though. Don't fall for the BS that you have to be as thin as the models in magazines or some actresses. The number one thing I will tell you is that you should only lose weight for yourself & or health reasons. Don't let anyone else tell you what you should look like or what you should do. I hope that some or all of what I have said helps. Good luck on your journey to become who & what you want to be.

Soda, be it diet or norm is carbonated. The oxygen you breath in has 2 main purposes - it fuels metabolism (burning fats and sugars for energy) and removes CO2 from the body (which is a waste product from metabolism).

Drinking soda puts way too much sugar in your body in the first place, too much for your body to metabolize, so it turns the excess sugar to fat. On top of this, you add a lot more CO2 to your body.

Basically means that your body is using oxygen to try to convert all the sugar to energy, but there's extra sugar that tuns to fat. On top of this, by adding CO2 to your system, you take oxygen away from metabolizing that sugar - it shifts to remove all the extra CO2 your taking in. This means less oxygen is available to metabolize sugar and leads to even more fat production.

Overall, an excess of soda (even diet) is a very very bad move for your weight (not to mention your teeth).

Cut the 'wayyyy ttooo muchhh' soda and substitute natural juice or such (or iced tea with a bit honey instead of refined sugar) and you'll be groovin in no time. You'll feel a lot peppier as well as it takes a load of systems (especially your liver) and energy to work on refined sugar (it can lead to diabetes), whereas natural sugars (fruit juice, honey) are easy on the body as they're natural for the body to work with and the energy saved goes to buring fat and fueling a positive mood.

Keep in mind as well, as with anything addictive (sugar is big time), you may get a bit weirded out. your liver is so used to combating and working the refined sugar, that if you stop you may have a few days of anxiety and tiredness as your liver will still be in overdrive wondering where all the sugar it's been fighting against went. But a few days later when it gets the message you'll feel fantastic.

Be very careful when drinking diet drinks or using artificial sweeteners because the have chemicals that are very dangerous. I have 2 articles for you to read and make your own decision. The problem with our society today is we over eat and we eat way too much crap. Eat more veggies and fruit. If you wanna snack eat a celery stick. If you want to have a soda just have a couple a week.

The chemical in diet products is aspartame. It is very dangerous and can cause anywhere from headaches to seizures.

diet sodas cause cancer! lol
trade in the soda, it is so bad for you! Drink water, water, water! It's so good for you!
Quitting the soda drinking will be a great start to losing weight, but you really need exercise as well as a good diet. And that also stands for maintaining weight. Don't wither away on us :) :)

I love diet soda cos so low in calories! However, recent research has revealed that the sugar-substitite they use actually increases appetite. Therefore, whilst you are consuming less calories drinking the diet soda, you will crave sugary and fatty foods. This is ok if you have good will power. However, bad if you can't help but eat when you crave!!!!!!!
