I think this a really a line to help us get thru the break-up without being so let down. I remember a guy saying the same thing to me when I was in highschool. Needless to say I never heard much from him again. Now since a lot of time has gone by, I realize I was better off without him anyway. He was seeing my best friend behind my back.

Either she didn't know what to do or she didn't mean what she has said. You may want to verify that by calling her up and check how's she doing. It does no harm, right, if the ground is clear that you both are just friends. Unless you are ready to close the book and move on.

usually we say that so we feel like we ended the relationship amicably. It usually isn't meant literally, I mean in some cases it is, but usually not. Have you called her to see how she's doing? Maybe she's testing you to see if you still care about her? Or maybe she's giving herself space from you before she starts an actual platonic relationship with you.

maybe shes shy and scared about what you will say. what if you try calling her? that way she knows you value the friendship still, and that you care. someitmes it can be really awkward after breaking up, espeically after such a long relationship. she might still be getting over it, and maybe talking to you right now would just be more salt on the wound. i'd say give it a week adn if she still hasn't called, why don't you call her?

Don't expect us to do the first move. We already give a hint! When we say we wanted to stay friends with you means that you can still call us up! We will enetertain your call but gee, don't expect us to trigger...

#1 - There's still emotions there that need time to pass before a friendship can actually be formed.
# 2 - She may have said that to cut away on peaceful, amicable terms even though she might certainly still care for you as a person.

So they can end it on good terms. Sometimes, it's because she wants to put you to the side so that if something better doesn't come along, then she can always come back to you. Sad, but all too true.

Maybe she hasnt reached the stage where she can call you and talk casually without having feelings and its not just hard on you its hard on her too.
