Do you have to get personal about your life with a doctor when it concerns depression? Or can they go around that?

Talking out your feelings is the only way to work through depression. Hiding what you feel will acomplish nothing. i spent years being perscibed meds and avioding really talking about the problem. It may seem worth it, but it's not.

Find a doc you are comfortable with, they are not there to judge you. One of the only people you can talk to without having them judge what you are saying.

Medication will only go so far, therapy will create a lasting effect.

Life has patterns that repeat . Humans have patterns of life that are repeated. If you want to see a complex pattern is repeating you need to study many sections on the pattern. Since your brain is not erased as the years pass everything in it is connected emotionally to the end emotion. This doesn't mean a doctor can tear and tare your guts and then make you better. In the end it is your understanding leading to new experiences that will help you recover. Dulling the brain is not recovery.

You can keep the details out of the conversation. Respond with general comments like, "I'm having relationship problems" or "There's a lot of stress in my work place and I'm not sleeping." Google "depression" and know ahead of your visit the symptoms that you have. Glance through a book at the library and take notes on the things that you can relate to. There's lots of info about depression. It'll make the interview shorter.

Aloha is dead wrong.

You are better to go with an open mind and basically be honest. To begin with they will ask you a few questions from a list and decide where to go from there.

It will help however if you have a relationship with your doctor than one you meet the first time.

Go to your family doctor

Psychiatrists are the ones who want you to spill your guts and tell your life story. You can just tell a dr the symptoms that you are having, and they should be able to go from there. They may recomment that you see a psychiatrist.

well, they need to know a certain amount of info, but they also have tests that i believe a computer does the scoring on..otherwise, find someone you're comfy with, ask around, depression is more common and sufferers, like me, want to help others find happiness again...doc patient confidentiality, and a comfortable person.. maybe a counselor to start with.. ask at a nearby school, or call your healthcare facility. they'll all be able to give good recommendations..

My wife's oncologist asked if she was depressed. I said yes, He prescribed fluoxatine for her, It really helped both our lives.
She always kind of looked on the down side of things. it is better now. It doesn't take long to see someone is a downer, It just takes a good doctor to want to intrude.

no your doctor can ask you a few questions about whats going on with you today and he can read your emotions, the Dr, can read your emotions, because first I talked to the therapist and then went to talk to the Dr, and he gave me Zyphrexia and I'm doing just fine now.
