It's confusing. Everyone says Jesus is God, that they are the same. But then what was God BEFORE he impregnated Mary and made Jesus? I mean, if God and Jesus are the same now, then what was He back when He made the universe? Was He somehow less than He is now? If not, how is He different now that He and Jesus are one being?
When Jesus was alive, was he God then too? That doesn't seem likely, because then God had himself crucified. So then what was the difference between God BEFORE Jesus was born and God AFTER Jesus died?

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity states there is one true God who is made up of three separate but equal persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

All three persons of the Trinity are believed to be eternal, always alive. God the Son, Jesus Christ, was present at the beginning of the world before he became a human baby.

How this works is not fully known and is one the Christian mysteries.

There is a story told about St Augustine:

Augustine was walking along the seashore trying to figure out the mystery of the Holy Trinity and came up to a little boy. The boy was trying to pour the ocean into a hole in the sand with a seashell. Augustine told the boy what he was doing was impossible. Then the little boy told Augustine that it is also impossible for the mind of man to try to understand the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The little boy turned into an angel and disappeared.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is shared by most Christian denominations including Roman and Orthodox Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals and Episcopalians.

With love in Christ.

This is the part where I say, that's the difference between the beliefs of Catholics and Mormons.

As a Mormon, we (as in our church) believe that they are 2 different beings. It's kind of a redundant action if God impregnated Mary so that He could be born as Jesus...I mean what was the point if God was able to create the Earth, he created man, could he not also create himself a body and not impregnate a woman for that purpose?

If people start to reason that God and Jesus Christ are two different beings...the Catholic faith and many others who believe in that will be in trouble, but you're on the right track...it's just not spiritually and physically possible to give birth to yourself. Especially if you don't believe in reincarnation which is absolutely not a teaching in any Christian church.

Jesus is not God and God is not Jesus. I suggest that you read Matthew 3, when Jesus was baptized. You will see that the "trinity" appears as three distinct beings. The dove descending from the sky, Jesus being baptized, and then the voice of God saying, "this is my beloved Son."

The trinity is harder to explain than understand, and understanding it is harder than Chinese algebra. It's a doctrine, which is more of a common belief based on evidence rather than a direct statement from the Bible that says "There are three persons that make up God and it's called the Trinity and here's how it works." It's a lot more complicated.

Imagine, if you will, a triangle. You can't have it without all three corners. You take away any corner and it loses its purpose. It's only a triangle with all three corners. They are all three equally important, but serve different functions.
1. The Father, who sits on the throne.
2. The Son, who came to save the world by becoming flesh.
3. The Holy Spirit, who dwells inside the believer to change them.

Jesus is also understood to be mentioned in the Old Testament in the form of the Angel of God. Evidence for the Angel of God as being Jesus includes the fact that the Angel of God is to be worshiped. (I have more. If you want to hear it, feel free to ask.)

The answer is the same God was here both before Jesus and after. Jesus was God taking human form to create a way for us to reach Him (salvation). The Holy Spirit was released from heaven after Jesus died so that we could have a personal relationship directly with God. All of this was next to impossible for many "common" people of the Old Testament. They had to go through prophets to get the Word of God.

Read the book of John. In the beginning was the Word.. etc. God is All, the Word of God created the heavens and the earth and this "word" was what came into the world as the incarnation of the God/man Jesus.

It is like you having a mind, body and soul. Your mind can be working while your body is doing something else and your soul is deep in your unconscious and connected to the spiritual world. It is very difficult to explain and many people more intelligent than I have written many books about it.

The trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit) has always been what it is. If you read Genesis, when God talks about Himself, He uses "us" (see Gen. 1 vs. 26).

Also see Colossians 1 vs. 15-17. In these verses, Paul talks about Jesus being involved in Creation.

You are right in saying that God had himself crucified. He loves us that much that that is exactly what He did. I recommend you read the book of Luke in the Bible. It is a good start in the investigation of Christianity.

Its not too confusing. God is a supernatural spirit, eternal and not bound by the laws of nature. Christ, when he was on earth, was a physical person, temporal in a sense that he was not physically on earth before and he is not physically on earth now, but Christians do not think Christ did not exist before he entered this life or that he ceased to exist when he left this earth. This was a big debate around 300AD, Christians had pretty much believed from the beginning that Jesus was divine, but they wondered if he was a physical being before he was "born" on this earth or in heaven if he is a physical or spiritual being. A bishop named Arius then said that Jesus ONLY came into existance when he was born, and his views were condemned and became Arianism, which many of the invading Goths adopted and it became very prominent in Germany.

Remember though, Jesus said, "Before Abraham was, I AM"

God is triune-3 persons in one.So God has 3 separate personalities,Father,Son,and Holy Spirit. Each an individual but complete in One God.So Jesus was in the Beginning but in Spirit, through Mary ,Jesus became man! One of us to live as us and die for us,for our sins that we could never atone! It took a sacrifice,"The Lamb of God" to pay the price, for yesterday, today, and tomorrows sins!Be Blessed for your Seeking and read the Bible.I prefer the New King James version.Start reading with the book of John, then Luke and the book of Acts. After that follow your Spirit and have Faith.I have found God to be Faith-full,not a liar, but True. Blessing to you in the Name of Jesus/Yeshua{His Hebrew Name} and enjoy learning and being Loved by the One True God.Amen

Jesus never - to my knowledge- claimed to be god he always spoke of god the father as another person but both being one of the same family IE.. God the father & Jesus Christ being the Son. Some people say they are one but Jesus was tempted by Satan and he said " Thou shall not tempt thou lord god" often he would pray to his father in heaven and there are many other verses that would indicate that they are indeed different individual.

It obvious that you are very confused. Jesus is a profit of the modern christian religion. He is no more and no less than an adviser to the people who believe that somebody can and will excuse them for all the wrongs that they do, or they do not not do in obvious purpose in there lives but bless them regardless for having had these faults maybe they should concentrate instead on not contributing these faults in the first place.
