About the Lenten Season
The Archdiocese of Denver invites the faith community to join together in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as we embark upon the Lenten journey towards the Cross and, ultimately, towards the Resurrection.
Pope Benedict XVI's Lenten Message:
Pope Benedict's Lenten message for 2007, which serves to guide the faithful in their Lenten journey, considers the following excerpt from the Gospel of John: "They shall look on Him whom they have pierced" (John 19:37). The Holy Father's message continues in the theme of his first encyclical, Deus caritas est, "God is love," inviting the faithful to bask in the love of Christ as manifested in his total self-sacrifice on the Cross.

Actually, neither one. Lent is a 40-day season, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Palm Sunday. The next week is called Passion Week or Holy Week, and includes Maundy Thursday (institution of the Lord's Supper), Good Friday (Jesus' trial and crucifixion), and Holy Saturday (also called the Easter Vigil--the one full day when Jesus lay in the tomb), finally ending on Easter Sunday (Jesus' resurrection from the dead and appearance to the women at the tomb). Hope that helps.

It end at the moment Jesus is resurrected. So in my church that is at the Great Vigil of Easter which is after sundown on Saturday night. Actually it is at the point in the Vigil when all of the lights come on and we sing Alleluia again.
