I've been on lexapro for a few years, definalty helped. Anxiety reduced so much I stopped taking it for awhile, but eventually had to go back.
One of the only drugs that really helped with the anxiety.

Lexapro is only the second antidepressant I've ever taken and it's been a pretty positive experience. I was on Zoloft for almost 2 years (about 5+ years ago) and was up to 200mgs/day and still felt crazy and pretty bad most of the time. Zoloft did nothing for my anxiety.
I was off all meds for a few years and hit my lowest bottom yet in July of 2006 (delusions, suicide crap, paranoia, anxiety/panic attacks). I was put on 10 mgs of Lexapro in early November along with the .5mgs of Ativan (for the anxiety/panic attacks). I was to take the Ativan "as needed". The Ativan made me feel great because I got addicted to it almost immediately. The Lexapro felt like it was doing nothing for me. I was raised to 20mgs of Lexapro in December and about 2 weeks later I started to feel really good for no reason. It was finally working. I was switched off the Ativan and put on Klonopin in January and that is working well for my anxiety and I have not become addicted to it.
I was feeling better on the 20mgs of Lexapro but, honestly, I was still depressed. I just wasn't out of my mind and suicidal anymore. I was raised to 30mgs last month and so far I've been feeling even better. I felt a few mood swings here and there that I never really had before (I used to only be depressed) but I've been feeling very stable the last week or two. I have had NO weight gain whatsoever and I've actually lost over 10 lbs since starting on the meds, probably because I'm not scared to leave my house as much and I get more exercise.
Side effects I've had: When I was first put on Lexapro, I had very uncomfortable nausea for a few days but once it passed I was fine. Each time my dosage is raised, I have a day or two where I have nausea but it always passes and I'm fine again. That's it, no other side effects that I've noticed from the Lexapro.

I noticed a positive change in my attitude in just a few days with Lexapro. Before, my heart would race in every stressful situation. I would get extremely depressed if anything happened that wasn't exactly what I planned on. Public places bothered me quite a bit because I always felt like something was wrong with me and people were staring at me all the time. Now I don't really feel that badly. I've been on it for almost a year, and recently switched to Zoloft for my pregnancy. They both seem to work about the same. If you don't feel better soon then you may need to get a better evaluation because you could have a more serious personality disorder like Manic depression.

I have been on lexapro for about a month now. For the first 2 weeks, there were no major differences in my depression... I found that by week three or four I had a lot more energy, was feeling more motivated, and less sad. I made additional changes to my environment, that may have helped--- but so far I've had a positive experience with lexapro. My doctor also suggested pairing it with Wellbutrin (150mg) for an extra energy boost.

Lexapro is good stuff. Didn't make me feel like a zombie, and I had problems with being skittish in public areas, like grocery stores and malls, etc. Being around too many people just stressed me out, so I had gone to the doc and that's what they prescribed me was the Lexapro. Did wonders, and now I can actually be shoulder to shoulder with someone and not get all pumped up with adrenaline! Also, when it came to a confrontation, that would set me off, but the lex helped me stay balanced...no goofy side effects that I could tell.

I really liked Lexapro - I did quite well while taking it. The only reason I switched to something else was because I lost my perscription insurance, so my Dr. put me on Celexa which has a cheaper genaric version. Good luck with the Lexapro.
