sometimes religion makes people feel better and it also takes the stress off them if they can say they made a decision based on the teachings of someone ELSE.
In a way, it's a way of passing responsibility.

Okay. Last question first: No, the devil did not give us our hearts and souls; God did. And He does want us to think for ourselves. The problem is that we have all turned away from God who created us--that's been true since Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. So now our hearts are disconnected from God, who is the source of all true knowledge; so when we look into our own hearts for answers, there's either nothing there or else what is there is wrong. But we can through Jesus Christ be reconnected to God; He gives us a new heart to be able to know Him, and through Him, all those things that puzzle us...although He does not tell us everything now, He has promised that eventually, we will know as He knows us.
I hope this answers your question.

You very well should look into your heart for the answers. The one thing you should watch for is both the devil and the lord are able to give you impressions it will be your choice to make the right choice as neither will force you. The light of Christ is the knowledge you were born with that gives you knowledge of what is right and wrong. If you make too many bad choices the light dims such as you may know at first it is wrong to have sex outside of a marriage but after a while it does not seem wrong or taking drugs there are many things that way I suppose even murder could get that way if done enough. The one thing you should look for is does it give you true happiness or end up with you feeling lost or empty. The flesh has to be controlled in order for true happiness to be yours. per say drinking makes you feel good for a short time but ends up hurting you and ruining you self esteem if done in excess to long.

I agree with you Munkees. I consider myself a follower of Jesus, and I assure you it is not necessarily wrong to think for yourself. The problem comes when you may find that your ideas and your heart don't agree with what you've been told, then your friends or family might feel threatened by that.
Ever since the invention of the Printing Press, and now the internet so much information has become available that it can get a little overwhelming. Don't try to think about it all too much, or make sense of everything -- you will get a headache. Eventually you'll come to the same conclusion that I did, and it's that God is a god of mysteries. Some of those mysteries are left to be experienced rather than explained.
But my what a glorious day it will be when we find that Truth from within ourselves, and it wasn't because anyone told us. It was because we internalized the answer and allowed Christ to speak to us in our hearts.
So be it!

Aside from being severely deluded about the existence of a god, you are evidently severely under-educated when it comes to human biology.
The human heart is a pump. That's all it does. There is no emotion in your heart, there are no answers in your heart.
Your brain is where all emotion lives and the answers are often there too.
Free-thinking is the only answer to human life's day-to-day situations. Hello brain again.
God is imaginary and, it follows, that the devil and souls are also fabrications.
Imagine no religion. Easy if you have a brain. Then, such questions as these immediately have no bearing at all on humanity. Wouldn't you like to be free of this nonsense and live a better life?

Who in the world said it was wrong to think for yourself?
God gave you a brain - along with common sense (well at least for most people, some seem to be severly lacking in this area). You have them for a reason.
And if you are a Christian you believe that the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you. So, in the Christian view, you have the ability of having a close, intimate relationship with God and that your heart and soul are directly lead by him.
God does not tell you what to think. God granted all people free will. That's why, in Christianity, there is a choice between believing and not believing. It is not forced - otherwise how could people freely give love?
God gave each of us our own voice so that we may make a mark in this world - stand out in our own uniquness and do what we were meant to do. Yes - Christians believe that God leads them but they also believe that they can think for themselves.

Dear friend,
The Bible teaches us that the "heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure"(Jeremiah 17:9)
Why would you want to trust something that is deceitful?
The heart is the seat of emotions.one day it tells you something and the other day something else because it is dependent on circumstances which are constantly changing.
You are right abt God giving us hearts n souls voices and choices. The prob is that there are too many choices and voices.Which is the right one then.....that is where you need God to speak to you thru the Bible.
On the other hand the Bible is the unchanging Word of God which has been given to us by God for our use."Direct my footsteps according to your word"(Ps119:113)That is a wiser way to live.
hope I have answered your interesting q.God bless you abundantly.

The reason we ask for the help of Jesus is so that He will guide our decisions in the best direction. He IS always guiding our lives whether we choose to believe that or not. He guides all of our steps in the hope that we will turn our focus on Him and give Him the glory for the good and seek Him when things aren't so good.
Our conscience guides our actions. If we listen to it when it tells us not to do something bad, it will continue to. If we ignore it, it's like a candle, it gets a little lower and is harder to hear.
This is the Holy Spirit guiding your decisions. It is important that you realize that we are all sinners and do make wrong choices every day because we don't heed that voice.
When we start to think for ourselves, we lose focus on the One with the answers and think we can do it on our own. This is when we get into trouble and make mistakes.
Oh, YOu are correct about the heart, soul and choices, it is this very thing that leads us to a life in Christ.
The Devil is very sneaky and that is why it is important to pray constantly. He sneaks in daily and convinces us that we know best and not Christ. He causes people to doubt that faith.
Read your Bible and stay close to Christ. When you make a mistake admit it, and move on. God forgives you and you need to forgive yourself too. Don't let Satan try to steal your happiness or joy. It is very easy to allow during times of high stress.

You should absolutely look in your heart for answers to life's trials....if you know the Lord, you'll find Him there.
I haven't always been a Christian. When I was younger, I was a disciple of science....I thought I was pretty smart and I didn't need any God telling me what to do. Then when I was in college at the age of 20, God got ahold of my heart and picked me up from a pretty low place in my life. Ask me how I know God exists....I know because I've seen Him working in my own life. It's not a work of the mind....it's entirely a work of the soul.
Yes, God created us with our own will, our own mind. God does not force us to accept Him. I have found over the years since I've accepted Christ that when I rely on my own mind to make important decisions, they never turn out quite right. When I ask God for wisdom, however, things always seem to work out in the end. It may not always be what I wanted, but it's always what I needed.
To answer your question directly, Jesus does not tell my heart "what" to think....He tells it "how" to think....with compassion, kindness, patience, respect, and generosity. Sadly, I'm at my worst at those times when I refuse to listen.

One of my best discoveries as a Christian was that surrendering my will to God did not mean I had to stop thinking for myself. Just the opposite, God loves us each for our very own personality, and values what we think. You are right...when people tell you otherwise, it's a load of lies from those who want to control you. And it's the calling card of those who are afraid of the fullness of free will.
Yes, the mind is a battleground of good and evil, for sure, and I am so grateful to have supernatural help to fight that fight. But I also have the never-ending joy of knowing I am cherished by my Maker, even when I question things and voice doubts. I believe God actually wants and enjoys a creative, lively exchange with each of us. Being obedient is important, too, but it's mostly about embracing God's best for us and not much at all about restriction.
Try to forgive those who are so fearful of their own freedom that they try to corral yours. Set some healthy boundaries. And then just enjoy the ride as best you can. Life itself is a challenge, but meant to be enjoyed, so who needs to be encumbered by the dead weight of resentment toward those who don't get it?

God has given us freedom, we can make our own choices, but when you believe that Jesus died on the cross, he is here to help. That is what the Holy Spirit is for. Jesus doesn't tell us what to think, but the Holy Spirit is there to guide us. I think the devil puts thoughts in our heads, that's why you shouldn't speak of things that are negative. Don't let the devil know what you are thinking, because he can put bad things in your head. I wouldnt worry if i were you, if you are a Christian(you believe that Jesus died on that cross) you are going to make it, you are Gods chosen people and he wont let you down. Do you know John 3:16? Well thats all you need! I dont think its bad for us to look into our hearts to find answers, God gave us feelings, thoughts, hopes, and dreams. He gave us the freedom to run our own life, he just want us to put Him first, but he is there when we make mistakes to pick us up. He says we are his children, we are royalty, and he gave us the right to control our lives. Just trust on him, you make your dicisions, just ask him for guidence. sometimes i wish he was right here telling me what to do, everyday, but hes not, he wants us to live and learn. Just Praise The Lord, He Is In Control!
