Wow. You stereotyped quite a lot there. First of all, everyone is entitled to their own perspectives, including immigrants. That includes the "bashing". And with our president today, I don't blame them. The foundation for this country is it's diversity. Naturally, you cannot expect it to be uniform. That is why most people do not answer, "American," when asked their race. Conditions are not abhorrent outside of the US, but many leave looking for something better anyways. Many are disappointed, and some are pleased. It's not necessarily bad, again this is what defines "American" today. We are not a flawless country, so not everyone is going to be a die hard patriot. Try being a little more open minded, and maybe you'll understand their perspective.

I've said it several times and I will say it again.
United States Immigration laws are in place to protect people in our country from criminality and disease. Those regulations are in place to protect those people who are citizens and those who have immigrated lawfully. We simply need to enforce the laws that are already in place.
As for the person up a few posts who thinks we should teach all the illegal immigrant children to read and then give them financial assistance... Do you honestly believe that welcoming people who are in this country illegally with open arms, and giving them free money will DISCOURAGE illegal immigration? What are you smoking?
Immigration laws need to be enforced. It is not the American government that regulates expatriation from Mexico, it is the Mexican government. Why would Mexico fix it's own problems, when all they have to do is turn a blind eye to the illegals crossing the border, then rake in the boon to their economy with all our under-the-table wages paid to illegal workers that get sent to Mexico in the form of cash, telephone cards, gift cards, and wire transfers? The truth is, there IS no incentive for them to fix their own problems. Heck, we're supplying welfare to half of Mexico, and they're paying NO taxes!!

All I have to say is the "making illegals get a drivers license to drive is like making the Jews wear the star of David." Anyone else remember that argument, didn't happen that long ago.
Hey how many times have you heard of politicians talking about granting them amnesty? Guess what, every time they do, they protest. Yeah sounds like someone who really wants to be a good citizen and just doesn't know how to me.
Oh crap, they are going to make us legal and we will have to pay taxes and learn English we can't let that happen. That is what that says to me.
And I am so sick of hearing people say that someones point is mute because they misspelled a word, it is called a typo, and it happens to everyone. What is funny is that if you correct one of these people who is correcting the person asking the question, they get very offended. Good job at showing us you are stupid.
As an edit: Great question by the way, I see that most people could not answer it and could only call you names. Pardon my calling of names. I do think it is dumb to say things like "use spell checker and you won't be so stupid." If you had to use spell checker you screwed up just like the rest of us.

Why do Americans take a vacation to Mexico and expect everyone there to speak English and understand them? Most flee their country because their is no way to keep their family from dying. If they had a choice they'd stay in their native country. Like I asked above when you go to Mexico and everyone is speaking Spanish are you not frustrated and upset. When your there you call their customs weird and such. Is it not the same? Lack of the ability to communicate does that to people. Plus not to mention Becoming naturalized is a rigged system. First they let the rich through, then the More important people and with what little slots are left you are either put into a lotto or only a certain number on the list are accepted. Once that is done you must apply again. By all of the time this takes your family would have starved to death. That's the one thing I hate about Americans they believe that they are better than everyone and that everyone must adjust to them. I hope that answered your question.
Also from another comment: Why don't all Americans learn to speak universal languages? Why must everyone adjust to us? After all Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language, why don't we all learn that? Answer: Why should we have to, right?
Thanks Anddaww. The thing is though illegal immigrants are afraid to enter schools and such because they don't have the money or the papers to do it with. How can they learn if they have no money or opportunity to do it? That's why national reading programs are so important. We expect them to learn, but how when all we do is degrade them for trying?
If we want to stop illegal immigration we need only do two things: Help give people better educations, and give them the financial help so that they can survive independently. That is why Kiva.org is such a great site. It solves one of those problems.
(Oh, and I am American. I just question some of our very racist ways.)

1. All the immigrants I know love America far more than anyone I know that was actually born here.
2. Moving here doesn't mean having to completely discard the culture in which one grew up.
3. Once again, I have never met a single immigrant who felt he deserved a free ride; lousy work ethic tends to be an American thing.
Please don't assume the entire world wants to move here, haven't you realized that we're looked down upon by most of Europe? That our educational and social systems are behind those of other industrialized countries?

Mainly because they want our benefits with out paying the prices that we have to pay. they have no respect for our country, All immigrants have to assimilate to OUR way of life, English is our language, learn it or leave, our country is obviously better than where they used to live because they left, so if they want to come here they have to deal with how we are or go back HOME. America is a melting pot, meaning when they come here they have to melt into our way of life. One Flag, One Country. they need to make the choice.

Great question! Maybe it's because people allow it! That's the problem with political correctness, people are afraid to speak their mind because they might be called bigots, haters, racists, etc.
So many people come here for freedom, maybe they just don't know what to do with it once they have it. I think it's up to Americans to show them.
There's nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, but you should be more proud to be an American!
