There are so many hotels in BKK that you can pick and chose regarding locations, grade and cost. It really what you are willing to pay. travelled to BKK regularly and have used different hotels in the central shopping area and found every one of them quite OK (just don't get the real cheap one, "you get what you pay for")

My brother went with his family and friends late last year and they found Asia Bangkok Hotel quite reasonable (not top class though) for families. It is a large hotel, centrally located with skytrain station right outside the hotel.

Look for any hotel in the "Siam square" or Pratunam area. Anywhere around the MBK shopping mall is good too. But realisitically - anywhere is good as there is always easy access to transport to anywhere (it's the time waiting in the traffic that can get to you)

Try this site for a list of hotels and their cost. This is the one I used to book and found it always very efficient. Although I am sure other people will give you other sites

The one I always stay in while on a holiday or business trip to Bangkok is Hotel Tai-Pan located in the central business district, on the Sukhumvit Road. They have a website, which is www.tai-pan.com and you can also book it at www.hotels.com. The local skytrain stations are located nearby and so are shopping facilities etc. Tai-Pan should charge you around US $30 per night. If you book this hotel through an agent at the airport- a city sight seeing trip is included free.

Alternatively, you can try the Baiyoke Tower in Prathunam. Can be booked online as well.

Most Thai hotels have family rooms that can take four or more passengers. You may wish to consider this option.

Alternatively, a wide selection of hotels is available at the hotels reservation counter at Suvarnabhumi International Airport of Bangkok. You can bargain hard and ask for freebies such as free buffet breakfast, free sightseeing etc to be included.

If you want a budget hotel, there are many but most will have to be booked upon landing, from counters at the airport.

Keep in mind that the star ratings you find sometimes is self rating by the hotel.

I use www.asiarooms.com, very good site with very good prices, it has reviews from users of the hotels. The only negative, is they are a little slow on giving credits on cancellations or changes. They are but, we are only talking anywhere from hours to a couple days.

I have not stayed at the Taipan Hotel at Sukhumvit Soi 23, the reviews are good. it is a 2 star appears to be almost 2+ or 3 star. And it allows for 3 or more people in the room. This is in the middle of Sukhumvit, it may be a bit noisy and smoggy down there. There were only 60+ reviews. It is near Soi Cowboy, you would only have to worry about this at night.

A hotel I suggested before for value was Asia Hotel Bangkok on Phayathai Road near MBK Center and Pratunam district. About the same price and definitely a 3 star hotel. And allows triples for a price of course.

Check out the other hotels in the areas you may want to stay. I had heard of the Taipan Hotel before that is why I checked it out.

I stay on Ratchadapisek Road north of the central business district. I have stayed at the Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel, 4 stars, and Emerald Hotel also 4 stars, and at a good rates from USD 37-60 per night. And both are 5 minutes walking distance from a Subway station. GM Fortune Hotel is about 10 minutes from the Sukhumvit Station and Emerald Hotel is about 15 minutes from the Sukhumvit Station. I am staying in a couple weeks at the Chaophya Park, one station north of the Emerald Hotel. Of the 3, GM Fortune Hotel may be the most convenient, it has a mall connected to it, a few restaurants, market, IT mall, Baskin Robbins, Pizza Hut and Mickey D's all in there.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Shopping areas are found mostly everywhere in Bangkok. This depends on your standards.
For cheap finds, Pratunam area would be ideal. Go to Indra Regent Hotel. A night costs around $ 40-50 US. Go to asiarooms.com and book your room.
A great mall is the MBK center. You can go to Pathumwan Princess. It's a 5star hotel with great amenities and just a walk from the mall. Happy SHopping!

Last week, I stayed at the Landmark. Very convenient for shopping (the Skytrain is half a block away and you only have to ride it for 2 stops to the mall). It was about USD 150 per night for 2 people. It also has a very good dinner buffet.

I always recomend to my friends the Sawadee, one street past Thong Lor (Sukhumvit 55). It's close to the BTS, it's close to the inner city. They usually don't have many guests, it's on a quite street. There is actually a thai kick boxing ring on the street....

the rooms are very clean and very cheap.

The swadee hotels are a chain. So wh6y don't you look on the internet for it.

I highly recomend this place, and it's very cheap, and they massage people downstairs, internet, and a restaurant

There are many grades of hotel there, and you fail to mention what type of grade you seek and/or what types of amenities. You also don't mention your expected budget so it's really hard to recommend anything.

I know many great places, and would be happy to post some web sites, but I really don't know where to begin for you.
