Just wondering how many other ppl on here don't have a TV. I gave up TV about 8 or 9 years ago. The Lord convicted me of watching it and I got rid of it. You can not obey the scripture that say to avoid the very apperance of evil and still watch TV.

But by saying "You can not obey the scripture that say to avoid the very apperance of evil and still watch TV" you are breaking one of the fundamental creeds of the bible: Judge not lest ye be judged! For by the same yardstick one measures others, so shall they be measured.
Besides which TV is like any other form of media, and not evil or good, but open to interpretation.
And in case you're thinking I am some kind of Pagan nut, you're partly right, I am an Esoteric Christian, one who follows the teachings of Christ but refuses to follow the the Church which has corrupted his message.

Television, radio, and newspapers are all controlled by a few parties, and are subject to certain guidelines. The internet allows everyone to be equal in the amount of exposure their ideas get. This is why there are so few ("true") Christian programs on television but why you can easily stumble upon many Christian websites. In the future, as the internet is subject to more guidelines and control (net neutrality and hate speech laws, etc), it will become more and more like television. This mirrors standardized education versus home schooling, which is why many Christians opt for the latter.

The garbage-to-good ratio for both TV and the internet are terrible. The difference is, with the internet, you are not sitting there, passively accepting whatever is presented to you; you can engage and question and challenge everything you read and see online, and your ideas and challenges are heard far and wide.

No one can avoid all evil, or even avoid sinning themselves. But you are right that eliminating television does help a great deal. Sex, violence, and anti-Christian ideals do not help a Christian.

Once your eyes are opened, it's very difficult not to hate and loathe things you see on television; giving it up should be a natural consequence of your spiritual state. Even seemingly innocent things like news programs, reality shows, or children's cartoons have subtle messages that are jarring to many Christians. If you are having trouble giving it up, it may not be the medium itself but rather the messages you are addicted to (sex, violence, etc). I congratulate you on your sacrifice and wish you God's continued blessings on your journey.

If you follow that particular scripture, you're going to need to live a long and solitary life in your basement, preferably with the windows shuttered.
You should also remember that Paul (from whom this line originates: 1 Thessalonians 5.22) was not all that firmly glued together on matters theological.

Does it matter? After all, you apparently do own a computer and many more people are sucked into the void of computering to the point of destroying their lives than anyone who has watched TV.

I don't have one because I don't want to pay for cable. Besides, I'd just sit around watching Law and Order all day and I'd never finish my Ph.D. Seriously, I lost a whole summer that way.

I disagree that all TV is evil, but discernment is important. There is a TV in my house, but there aren't many shows that interest me.

The Bible is getting more and more restrictive. You should have one regardless so you may keep up with popular culture and reference it in debates and arguements.

Either way, closing your eyes to evil does not eliminate it. The fact that you can see evil, and choose to be good, proves that you are truly so.

Some people don't realize there is life outside of TV; take away their TV, and they have nothing to do.
