Ride a bicycle as much as you can. It is all good:
1. good for the environment
2. good for your weight
3. good for your heart
4. good for your health
5. good for noise pollution
I ride my bike to work everyday, and I love it.

There has been recent studies saying that Global warming is not due to the greenhouse effect, but due to sun cycles itself. And there were periods in time in the past where temperatures were way higher that today. In the Medieval Warm Period and Holocene Maximum.
http://www.goglobalwarmingawareness2007.com/globalwarming-is-not-due-to-manmade-carbon-dioxide.html
Thus if global warming is not due to the greenhouse effect and people during these era's survived their "hot age" then we should be able to survive it too. I guess it is still energy conservation and use solar power to the maximum and use less electrical power. And use this power for cooling machines from the simple electric fan to the industrial aircon system.

Global warming is very much a real thing.
And, I am very active with telling the people at my school. So here are some things you can do.
1. Convert all regular light bulbs to CFL bulbs. they are a little more expensive, but lat way longer and use up to 80 percent less energy.
2. Talk to your city about establishing a similar Kyoto treaty like protocol. Tons of cities around the US are doing it. I am trying to convince my city as well.
3. Turn lights off when you aren't using them, turn computers off when you aren't using them.
4. Install solar power panels on your house roof.
5. Drive a car that gets at least 35 mpg.
6. Eat fruits and vegetables. 10 vegetarians can be fed with organic fruits and vegetables with the energy it takes to feed one meat eater.
7. Recycleeee!

There's nothing you can do to affect the climate. The climate earth's climate is constantly changing. Warming and cooling trends that last for centuries at a time are common place.
The warming that the earth is currently experiencing is neither warmer nor faster than what the earth has seen in the past.
See the attached link for the earths temperature change over the 150,000 years or so.

Reduce amount of waste you cause by consumption of various goods...food, clothing, etc.
Recycle what you can, whether it be as recyclables in bins picked up by carriers, donations of clothing and other goods to charity, finding other uses for common items, be creative in your thinking.
Energy of some form is used to create, package or transport everything you buy new, so buy less where possible. Buy local to reduce transportation energy use.
Contact your senators/representatives and ask them to support bills that are environmentally friendly. Join Sierra Club or World Wildlife Foundation or some other Environmental non-profit organization to support their efforts to conserve wildlife and the earth, as well as to receive notification of bills to contact your congressman about.
Boycott companies that are not environmentally friendly...example, Kimberly Clark uses freshly cut wood for TP, tissues and other paper products, use products made of recycled goods. Just being aware is a good start, thanks for being concerned.
Some people do not believe in global warming, but some people believe the earth is flat...Google or Yahoo Flat Earth Society. : )

Here's a list I made, it comes from a website of mine that also explains about carbon offsetting - a way in which you can offset your carbon emissions by planting trees.
There's more info on the website http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/combat.html but the main energy saving tips are listed below...
When replacing appliances buy energy efficient ones.
Turn off electrical appliances when not in use, don’t use the standby option.
Use energy efficient light bulbs and switch off lights when not in use.
Similarly, turn down water heating by a few degrees.
Fit individual thermostats to radiators and don't heat rooms that aren't used.
Insulate walls, lofts, hot water tanks and pipes.
Turn your heating and air conditioning down, a small difference will be barely noticeable.
Sign up to a green energy supplier, one that produces energy from renewable sources.
Turn off heating and air-conditioning when the house or office is unoccupied.
Wash full loads of clothes at a lower temperature, modern machines and detergents are just as effective at lower temperatures.
Dry your clothes outdoors instead of in a tumble drier.
Wash full loads in the dish-washer.
Insulate your home and block draughts around doors and windows. In Europe this is free to many people.
Consider installing a renewable energy system such as solar panels or a home wind turbine.
Use rechargeable batteries; don’t leave rechargers on for longer than is needed (including mobile / cell-phones).
Boil only as much water in the kettle as you need.
Buy locally produced organic food where possible, there's less transportation and the farming methods are more environmentally friendly.
Look where goods were manufactured and avoid buying those that have been flown or shipped long distances.
Recycle and reuse as much as possible. Sign up with mail preferential services to stop junk mail.
Avoid buying products with excessive packaging.
Don’t have your fridge or freezer set lower than need to be, regularly defrost freezers, don’t put hot food into your fridge or freezer.
If your fridge or freezer is over 15 years old then consider replacing it (check with local authority regarding disposal of old one).
Work from home where possible.
Eat less meat and dairy produce, farming produces large quantities of greenhouse gases.
Drive a fuel efficient vehicle, if you have more than one vehicle then use the most economical one more often.
Consider walking or cycling when going to work or taking the kids to schools, if you have to drive then consider car sharing.
Use public transport where possible and consider taking a coach or train instead of using domestic flights.
When replacing your vehicle look at diesel and liquid petroleum gas models.
Combine multiple journeys into one and do your weekly shopping in a single trip.
Stagger journeys where possible to avoid rush hour traffic and hold ups.
Avoid harsh braking, accelerate gently and drive at a steady speed.
Keep tyres inflated to the correct pressure.
Remove bike and ski racks when not in use, also remove detachable roof racks, luggage boxes etc.
Carrying unnecessary weight wastes fuel, declutter your vehicle.
Use the correct gear and use cruise control if your vehicle has it.
Keep your vehicle regularly services.
Turn the engine off when stopped or waiting.

well, start by turning off lights (i think 50% of electricity is produced by coal, which adds to the greenhouse gasses)
drive as little as possible, keep your car tuned up well
there's a better list at ben& jerry's website. they're trying to help out too. have you seen that movie by al gore? "an inconvenient truth" you could check that out..but i'll warn u that it's pretty disturbing.

there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms
in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result
in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert,
,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were very few desserts.
collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,
each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss
and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
and there are 70 million more peole every year that have to eat and drink and wash
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing
RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/natur...
if forrest are being exchanged for ashalt, concrete and desserts
what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us
Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects
climate change is caused partly by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man
Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.
SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes
reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
the protection of existing forrests.
stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine
recicling wastes,limit water use
here are a 100 more ways
