No good. "Separate but equal" has never worked. Read Brown v. Board of Education.

They all ready do call it something else..Civil Unions. Kinda stupid for if a justice of the peace, a mayor, or another civil authority "marries" someone, effectively that would be a Civil Union no matter what the gender mix of the two being married.
Marriage is a Religious symbol and event. Therefore government in this country has absolutely no real say as to who can marry and be married to. If a Church or other religious body says they will not marry a couple because it is against there religious beliefs, then so be it. However the government should not deny them equal rights under the law no matter what gender, color, race, creed, or whatever. In a country of freedom we try to deny freedom to others!

They wouldn't be happy with that. What they want is equal - not separate. They want the same thing.
Would it be the same if it were legalized? Could it be? That I really don't know. And I don't know that I would say that I am "for" gay marriage. HOWEVER, I know that there is a ton of hate in this world - so if two people can find love in each other, who am I to judge. God will be the judge, and none of us can truly know what his final judgement of individuals will be.
I'm sure people will bring in "sins of the flesh" - well, I know plenty of Christians who committ sins of the flesh as well - maybe not homosexuality, but in one form or another. All sin is equal - gay is not worse than another form of sin. And even though we want to judge and we can quote Bible verses to "back us up" - ultimately sin is sin.
sorry folks, didn't mean to go on and on and get all religious on you, it's late, I'm tired, and I guess I'm done on Y! Answers for tonite. Peace out.

Why would we call it something else? A marriage is a marriage, is a marriage, etc. Who would we be changing it for, some born again christian? I've known "gay" people who were better parents than a lot of us "heterosexuals ever had time to be. Please, stop worrying about the homosexuals and pray for the people who really need it, the self proclaimed born againers.

I think it shoudl still be called marriage or whatever.
I am...hmm..not sure of hte word to use.....but don't approve of gay marriage.
But if marriage to someone is just about the legal perks of sharing a life with someone...then why does it matter if two men / women get married. IF they are sharing the same tyep of life a heterosexual couple live, let em have hte perks too.
And if its religious, then let them get married and let god punish them later....its not your sin for someone else getting married. Can't expect someone who says their religion allows it or doesnt' believe in god to follow someone elses religious law.
If someone elses actions aren't hurting you or others...let them do what they want.

Really... that's how you feel? That would imply that you don't care about gays getting married... you care about a word. A man-made, English, word. You want to protect a definition more than you want to protect the rights of gays.
If gays got "married" or if they got "homo-unionized" what has ACTUALLY changed? Nothing. So why put measures in place to get a word changed when it will accomplish nothing? It's a waste of time and money, and quite frankly shows where people put their priorities.
What if we gave blacks all the voting priviledges of whites, except we called it "negroting?" What's it matter? They still get to vote right? By seperating gays into a "seperate but equal" category, you are simply drawing attention to the fact that you feel they are "outside" of your society. If they truly were equal, they could do everything you could do. Including marriage.

Hmm..Im kind of confused with the whole gay thingy myself.
I mean I fully support rights of those who have no other choice but to be gay, you know they feel like the opposite sex and have felt like it ALL their lives.
But there are also so many other men who are happily married to other women, have children and find a way to exercise gay sex. Im really against that. I feel like they do it cause it feels so good, and out of lust, and not really because they have no other choice.

God ordained marriage in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve or Eve and Sally. It is still wrong and an abomination, no matter what you call gay "unions" or whatever. God ordained marriage and to even think of allowing them to have the perks of marriage is a slap in the face to God. BTW: straight couples living in sin is also a slap in the face to God.

This is not an issue of names to call it or legality.
It is not right that two person of the same gender will be called couple or family.
God created MAN and WOMAN as pro-creators and foundation of family. let us not bend the natural law to suit our individual wants and preferences.
My friend just look at the basic truth of life and all things will unfold.

Brown was 53 years ago. The legal state should be called 'marriage' across the board, and it should be available to all adults capable of entering into a contract.
