My husband is 34, 6'4 and 250 and he's not overweight. You're still growing! You're 17. If you FEEL overweight, go for a walk, go for a swim or something. How you feel about yourself is more important than how you look. :-)

According to the national CDC (Center for Disease Control) you have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of about 30, which is too high.

Now, because you are 17, this may not be as big a deal as if you were 10 years older. Believe it or not, you may still be growing.

A wise precaution is to see a doctor, first of all. A good doctor will probably not put you on a weight loss diet at your age, but will put you on a healthy diet, and have you increase your activity level. You need to maintain a good level of fuel for your body to finish all the necessary construction going on, and that may continue until you are 21 years old, and in some cases a little beyond that. I know I gained 3 inches in height between the ages of 17 and 22.

At 17, your bones are probably strong enough to withstand some weight training, but just walking is a great activity. If you are indeed still growing, you have to be careful not to damage your bones, because they still have "soft spots" where the growth is happening.
