rice, coleslaw, hush puppies, and corn on the cob are my favorite things with fish.
1. FISH FRY RICE
Prepare brown rice according to box, toss with olive oil, soy sauce, basil, and thyme.
2. SOUTHERN COLE SLAW
1 head of cabbage
1 large onion
4 baby carrots
1 green pepper
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1 tablespoon vinegar (or to taste)
1 tablespoon sugar (or to taste)
mayonnaise (about a cup or to taste)
This can be made in a food processor or with a shredder. Best made in food processor. Cut up cabbage, onion, green pepper and baby carrots put in the food processor. Grind until fine.Transfer to a large bowl. Add sugar, vinegar, salt and mayonnaise. Mix well.
3. HUSH PUPPIES
1 1/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. pepper
3 1/3 c. white cornmeal
3 lg. eggs, well beaten
1 1/4 c. milk
3/4 c. onion, finely chopped
1/2 c. oil
Sift together baking powder, flour, salt, and pepper. Stir in cornmeal. Combine eggs, milk, onion, and oil. Stir all ingredients together, just until blended. Form into about 50 hush puppies, approximately 1 1/2 tablespoons each. Fry in hot deep fat, 3-5 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper.
4. ROASTED CORN ON THE COB
Remove outer husk. Turn back inner husks; remove silks. Replace inner husks. Place on grill. Turn often. Roast 12 to 15 minutes. Husks will brown but corn will be delicious. Serve corn on cob with butter, salt, and pepper.

I think the answers below pretty much hit the nail on the head. I think that black or white, people love good food. Hush puppies, cole slaw, corn on the cob and biscuits would hit the spot. Homemade lemonade, and an apple pie for dessert would round it out with flair.

Cole Slaw is a great pairing for fish (trust me I live in Maine). It's a cheap thing to make, but really compliments the fish.

French Fries ! You can buy a 20 lb. bag of spuds for $3.00.
You will have some cutting up to do but, and you may or may not believe this but I know for a fact, that they are just as good if you don't peel them. Nobody will say a word.

I'm with everyone else, around here it's generally french fries and coleslaw. Onion rings are good too. At a local diner, they substitute fries with an order of homemade mac and cheese and it sells like crazy. Good luck to you.

Have plenty of tartar sauce and lemon wedges handy. I've been to two fish dinners in the last month and neither one of them had lemon wedges. What the heck?!
