I have just put in a new motor out of a 1996 Dodge intrepid in it as they both have the same 3.5L V6. All of the plugs and grounds are connected and has fuel pressure, and turns over with a gassy smell in exhaust! But will not fire! I have a feeling it could be a cam or crank position sensor but not sure! PLEASE HELP

All of the plugs and grounds are connected and has fuel pressure, and turns over with a gassy smell in exhaust! But will not fire! I have a feeling it could be a cam or crank position sensor but not sure! They have a Timing belt and the motor was running prior to the installation although i has been sitting since Aug. 2004 And there is NO SPARK PERIOD so it is not timing related!!! PLEASE HELP

check with your auto parts store to see if this engine has an igniter under the rotor cap inside the distributor cap, this igniter could be bad, they range in price from $20-$200 or more depending on particular model of the igniter

do you know how to set the right timing? ok here I m gona try to explaing it to you , ready: first make sure your # 1 piston is at top dead center , do this by removing your spark plug and feel the commpression putting your finger on the port where you remove the s, plug , you will feel the pressure pushing your finger . with the help of an assistant turn the engine using a ratchet and socket on your cranckshaft pulley, once your engine is at top dead center , loose your distributor cap and make sure your rotor is pointing at the # 1 wire ,mark on the dist cap, ok then reinstall your distrib cap, hold the wire of your #1 spark plug about 1/4 of an inch from the engine then turn your ignition key on but do not start engine . holding the wire as i said slowly start rotating your distributor ,it will then send a spark to the wire and this will discharge the spark to the metal part of the engine, once you see the spark or hear the click stop that is the correct ignition timing , go ahead and holding the distributor retight the bolt , you are ready if you went to far and pass the spark dont worry move the distr back and doit again . turn the key off ,reinstall your plug reinstall your wire and voila . hope this helps buddy. good luck

if either of those sensors is not reading the computer assumes that the engine is not spinning so it wont allow it to fire on some of the 95 and 96 modles the old style codes will stillbe able to be accessed try to turn the key on and off 2 times then turnit back to the on position and wait afte allthe dash lights go out form their test the check engine light may start to flash it will do sequences like the first will be 1 flash pause then 2 flashes you would read that as a 12 it will do its thing till it hits a 55 code meaning end of test if it does this you can go to allpar.com and click on resources and then check your codes you get against a list to get what the computer dosen;t like

The first thing to check is to see if you are getting any spark at all. Next if you do, be sure that you have the plug wires in the right sequence. If you do then it is probably timing chain out of sequence.
