Sounds like homework help to me. But I'll give you a clue anyhow. John Mark was the son of a wealthy household as you can see by the early church meeting in his mother's house. He went on a journey that he was not prepared for and when the going got tough the young John Mark got going ...back home that is.

Later on, after he matured Paul told Timothy to be sure to bring him along because he was helpful to Paul. That was some years after Paul and Barnabas got in an argument over John Mark accompanying them on the second trip and they split up and went on their own separate journeys.

Was it "wrong" for him to return home. Well, you could say that he lacked faith and maturity and so he did the right thing by getting out when he did or you could argue the other way and say that he should have prayed and sought encouragement and trusted God and stayed on the journey. Take your pick.

Tradition teaches that John Mark became homesick and left to return to his home. The Bible does not state. What ever it was it was enough to keep Paul from wanting him for next journey and strong enough to have the partnership of Paul and Barnabas desolved.. But later in Pauls life the riff was resolved and John Mark rejoined Paul. History states that John Mark also was a discipe of Peter and the Gospel that bears his name is really the Gospel as relayed by Peter. There is no sound answer here as no one really knows why John Mark left.
