even though you don't know them
the first time i walked past where he was hanging out with his friend, i saw that his friend was smiling at me?! even though i have never talked to him before.
also, i was with my friends walking, and the guy i like was with his friends... the guy i like saw me coming his way and was suddenly jumped on by one of his guy friends.. when i walked past them the guy i like said my name in a way that was really happy, like he was really happy to see me. i said hi back to him but he was busy with his friends so i couldn't talk to him
the guy i like knows i like him, but only one of his close friends knows that... i don't think the friends that he was with knew that i like him (i'm not sure though)
does he like me?

he might like you. he acknowledged you with such a smile as you mentioned (when i walked past them the guy i like said my name in a way that was really happy, like he was really happy to see me.) though don't put all your eggs in one basket.
since you like him, how do you think it would go if you made the first move?

Normally is someone's voice suddenly becomes very happy when they are talking with you. Then what that usually means is that they do like you, but I can't be 100% certain about this because I would need to know more, but it does seem as if he does.

Next time when you see him, ask him. If he with his friends ask him to see him for a minute alone. That should answer your question.
