I applaud your creativity. I doubt it's possible to answer this question on its own without knowing more about you, but if you're stressing, you may need to find a different way to manage the work load.
If you've never written ANY books before, this is clearly a lot to take on. If, on the other hand, you're an author who just has a lot of irons in the fire, and the books don't require too much research and tracking (like a users' manual or a technical paper), then it is probably doable.
If, however, you've got 4 novels in the process, and each is still in its initial phase (i.e., not a re-write), then I think you'd have a difficult time keeping straight all the details of the plot and character development.
Be certain to keep up a healthy regimen of eating, sleeping, exercise and socializing, just to ensure you're not slipping into a pattern of compulsive behavior.
Good luck.

If you aren't having any problems, it's okay. I, too, am a multi-tasker and I am writing 3 novels at present, reading 4 books simultaneously, have several jobs, and work 7 days/week. I think it's pretty normal for some writers and/or artists to live like this. Fortunately, I couldn't be happier. I hope you are as well. Unfortunately, this schedule cannot last, as I have OCD and am prone to depression. So, I must gauge my activities and stress levels constantly, and act accordingly. I cannot just "stop" all the activity because my nature dictates that I be very industrious. I am in a constant state of mental / physical activity. It's just what and who I am. Best of success with your books.

I know what you mean. Man, do I know what you mean! Right now, I'm in the process of writing a 4-part story, a trilogy, the fourth part of a four part story that my friends and I are working on together, and another book that still way back in its developmental phase. In all, that's 4 stories divided into 9 books. Wow, 9 books, I've never realized before that it was so many! Its a lot of work, and many times I find that I'm not sure what to write anymore. When that happens, i just set aside the book I've been working on, and continue working on another. Sometimes, too, I find that I'm not sure what story I should put a new plot idea into. Man, that's one of the toughest parts of writing, another part is all the detail needed! But to answer your question, no it isn't really healthy. I find many times that my writing interferes with the rest of my life, my studying time decreases, therefore my grades decrease. Many times, I'm staring off into empty space because I'm thinking about one of the books. Also, it has hurt me socially. Occastionally, I've spent so much time writng, I start putting on weight! I recommend focusing on just one book, and trying to not let it interfere with your life. When you're stuck on that book, switch to another. Keep detailed notes of the books so that you don't mix anything or forget anything, but again, do not let it interfere with life. Good Luck in your writing! I hope you succeed!

I also write poetry and fictional novels. When I get new ideas I can be writing on both poetry and my fictional. I think it is part of my effect of OCD (multi tasking) and Mania (using creative sides, starting many projects at once, but end up getting overwhelmed and have to slow down and chose one thing, maybe 2 to work on. Just my experience and learning from other peers. --Gina

Well since you have to ask, it sounds like it is to you. Maybe stick with one or two projects at a time. You won't be as stressed, and you'll probably be more productive in the end.

Spending a lot of time writing is a sign of bi-polar disorder.
