Yes...sort of. I'm answering under the assumption that by "immigrants" you actually mean the legal term "illegal aliens".

You certainly hear the argument that they "do the job that Americans won't do" and it's true to a certain extent. Most Americans are smart enough to know if they're going to work for minimum wage, why toil from dawn to dusk bent over in a lettuce field for a few weeks, when they can earn the same in an air-conditioned McDonald's?

So it's more than the question "Will an American do that job?" but rather "Will an American do that job for what little you're willing to pay?".

Illegal immigrants hurt the job prospects & earning potential of those who are least skilled, and can ill afford the competition. This depression in wages has a tendency to "trickle up" in time.

For goodness sakes, their mere presence in the US is against the law! Why should honest Americans have to compete with criminals for jobs?

What jobs do you speak of? The Landscapers, the cleaners, or the fast food servers? what jobs have you seen immigrants working? If it is a high paying job, well they must have been more qualified than an American. Most illegal immigrants work jobs that most Americans turn their nose up at. If they are legal immigrants and have high paying jobs, don't you think an employer might want a more qualified person doing the job? Apparently they are more qualified than an American.

This is in response to this question and to the answer given by "lib/con" before me.

By the way, 15 or 16 year old teenagers are not allowed to work at construction sites because it is TOO DANGEROUS!.

Secondly, immigrants (legal/illegal) are stealing jobs from those who would want the mundane jobs that they do. I have known some students (high school and college) who were looking for work and were turned down because the employer could get cheaper labor by hiring immigrants.

Yes. I found that a lot of companies prefer to hire legal immigrants to keep cost down. Rather than encourage more students to study for certain jobs, they create antagonistic tactics, so citizens won't apply for jobs and then go to the government and say they can't hire Americans , so they can hire from outside our country. I applied for a job once and I got a letter from the US government informing me that the company was asking permission to hire outside the US. I wrote back that there was no shortage and the interview they gave me was suspicious. THey didn't even interview me at the job site. Illegal immigrants also seem to steal jobs. Yahoo had an article that a factory was force to fire their illegal immigrants. When that was announced, hundreds of citizen came to apply for the same jobs. My belief is these jobs, that immigrants often take, are not even open to the public.

No. Legal immigrants have every right to any job they can get. The illegal immigrants I have met all worked the same jobs as 15 & 16 year old kids, in restearaunts and on farms, there weren't exactly stealing jobs from adults who needed to support themselves.

Besides, most immigrants are simply trying to make a living, the American citizen who hires illegal immigrants should be the one to blame as they are looking for cheap labor. They are the ones giving away "our" jobs.

Yes they are. Have you noticed that those jobs that Americans "supposedly" won't do are increasing in number? Illegal Mexicans are now in the position that they can do what they want without government stepping in. They're taking office jobs and other jobs that Americans would gladly take because since they're illegal, our government can't do anything to punish them. And, the argument that illegals are doing jobs Americans won't do is a bunch of BS. Who did that work before all the illegals came? Oh yeah, I believe that was Americans. Illegals have no place in our society, yet they make room for themselves.

A working person's labor is a commodity in our capitalist system. Illegal immigration (cheap labor) reduces the value of that commodity. Why is capitalism so great for the merchants, but a real threat when it comes to the working class?

Well, I have met some illegal immigrants in the construction industry. Brick layers, painters, etc., etc.. The construction industry is full of cheap illegal immigrant labor. Those are fairly good paying jobs that you won't see very many 15 or 16 year olds doing.
