The iPod idea is a a very good one. will definitely relieve stress.
Drugs aren't a bad idea - Halcyon (.25mg before appt) or Valium (10mg) will work.
another thought is to find a dentist w/ Nitrous Oxide - this is what peopel call "laughing gas" - it doesn't make you not feel pain, but it does make you CARE a lot less about what's going on, and makes eVERYthing more pleasant.
the most important thing is to find a dentist who is kind, compassionate and gentle. yo'ull know when you meet them just by talking to them...if they're all liek "you need a crown; it's 1000 dollars...see ya in a week" then you should find another one who is willing to talk you through what you need done!
Good luck!

Hi,
I know this is going to sound, "Off -The -Wall,".....but the more you go, the more comfortable you will become and the more pleasant it will be.
If you become real familiar with everyone, almost like, "friends" you will not be very hesitant to go and will be more pleasant.
And yes, music will help, so bring it. Drugs will help also, but that just creates more of a worry...who will drive you home?? Can you eat??? Will the drug make you sick???
Make sure you find a dental office who is nice and up-beat. Try many of things and hopefully something will help. I just want to say, "KUDOS TO YOU" just for going and taking care of your teeth. !!!!!!!!! good luck

I'd avoid taking any other meds as it could counteract the anaesthetic and have your visit turn into a nightmare rather than an unpleasent experience.
If your problem is more like a phobia or a fear of dentistry I highly recommend finding a competent hypnotist and having a session or two the difference you will feel can only be described as amazing.

but if get kinda scared or nervous, then dont worry...
i dont really recommend listening to sumthin during ur visit, cuz ull be in for quite a wake up call or may get too distracted and hurt urself....
also ask the dentist to be ez with u...
and talk u through it....
its okay to get scared at time, just let em know how feel...
AND DONT USE DRUGS THAT GIV U A BLOOD THINING SID AFFECT!

Find one of those spa like ones, or at least have the TV on the ceiling.

if you're scared or very nervous ask for laughing gas, if it's an extraction you can even get an IV sedation.
