the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

People,
The quotation is from Joseph Smith in the Mormon book, The Pearl of Great Price. What sounds like Jesus in the quote marks' last phrase is a quotation from 2 Timothy 3:5.

And yes, it is an attack on any church that's not LDS.
Makes you wonder why Mormons want to be called "Christians" when they believe that all us Christians are "corrupt" and have "abominable creeds" like the Apostle's Creed or the Nicene Creed that affirm the Trinity, the Deity and Co-Eternity of Jesus with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

LDS get so mad when you suggest they are not part of Christianity.

this wasn't a statement made by a church leader, it was made by Christ. HE can insult anyone he wants to. Most people don't like to hear (or even become angry) that they are wrong or have done something they need to repent for.

This statement comes from my church, and yes we believe we are the only true church, because Christ set it up through Joseph Smith. If you would like to find out more, please contact lds.org and you can speak to a missionary who can answer any questions you have about the quote.

Our church loves all people and we do not make a habit of insulting other religions the way so many insult ours.

Many religions consider that they are the only true religion and spend an inordinate amount of time castigating the others. They can't all be right but they can all be wrong - which is the most logical conclusion.

It's their right to believe this. It's not an attack, but a statement. Many religions believe all others to be wrong, and they make statements to back that up. Get used to it.

I agree with Rocky Road. I see it referring to hypocrisy. It's not an attack; it's a general statement for those who worship or belong to any organized "religion". For those who don't "practice what they preach".

Is there such thing as truth? If so, and if there is only one God and Creator, why should He apologize to anyone for proclaiming these truths? How can contradictory religions all be true?
