Would he want me to?

Well, I'm an atheist so if God appeared to me in the first place then...big surprise. But I've always told everyone that if I die and it turns out that there is a heaven, then I would personally apoligize to him(or her, or however much of one or the other God can be.) But I don't think it would matter what religion God is. It SHOULDN'T matter. The fact that you have faith for God should be enough. Christian, Jewish, Muslim, if there's a God then the fact that you had faith should be enough for Him. However, I am just speaking from the point of view of an atheist who's putting them selves in the shoes of a believer so I don't know if any of this will make sense.

The bible does warn about lying signs and wonders. So if someone appeared and claimed to be God they would have some rigorous tests to pass. The Apostle Paul also said if I or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel than what I have preached let him be accursed. So the fact someone appears and claims to have some ability or some revelation isn't sufficient in itself. Which rules out Joseph Smith. As what he taught clearly contradicted the gospel Paul and the other apostles preached. Paul's edict also implied we not only have permission but we should be checking the message out and that we have the right to reject it if it doesn't measure up. So in finality. Just because someone claimed to be God showed up would not immediately result in changing my beliefs.

Christ and God the father did appear to a 14 year old boy in new york as he prayed in 1820. www.josephsmith.net/portal/site/JosephSmith

He never had a reason to lie about it, and didnt deny it even when he was murdered for what he saw. The boy was Joseph Smith, and to this day the church he started as christ directed him, the church of jesus christ of latter day saints has grown to cover the earth. It is the second fastest growing religion after Islam, and is today over 11 million members strong.

You can know for yourself if this is true, and to know for sure if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. All you have to do is read the book of Mormon and pray to God in faith, he will give you the answer directly. My husband was a catholic growing up, and converted to the LDS church as a teenager because he prayed and got his answer. Once you get the warm feeling of the holy ghost, telling your heart these things are true it is very hard to deny that knowledge.

Religion is a exclusively human phenomona. You need to rephrase your question: If God appeared and revealed that a religion other than your own was the true religion, how would you respond?

Hell no - because if another religions God turned up that means they actually do exist! (Albeit this goes against a single deity/divine being idea) My God might turn up and kick my *** for 'swapping sides'..mm i wonder if the Gods would then have a fight, what if others turned up, how many Gods are there, it would just get silly..good thing im not religious then. Good luck to the rest of you, your on your own :-)

NO I Would not change my religion based on some else coming on to the scene saying they were a god. This is becuase I believe there is but one true GOD and I am ever in His presence.

Maybe. It depends on what the god has to offer. I am currently atheist, but would be willing to adopt a different belief if so convinced. Not sure that I would call it "religion" though. I would never be willing to worship anything or anyone.

Anyone could appear and claim to be God, so my answer is no. Also because all religions tell you that if you don't believe and stay true to your religion, then you will end up in a place named Hell.

It also seems that Hell is the same or very similar in all religions.

Well the bible warns us of such things. Even though something may appear to be good, it could be of the devil. Think about it. When you see something on TV and it looks to great and you HAVE to have it, you buy it. Then you get it you realize just how much of a rip off it was. It is the same basic concept.

Great question. If God showed up really, convincingly, unarguably, "religion" just wouldn't matter because I'd just want to be around Him. Then again, he might be scary -- make you take your shoes off or something. But if he cared about us, religious form wouldn't matter a whit to me. I think it wouldn't take much "form" because most of our religious forms are attempts to connect in some way, I think.
