hopefully by the time we find another planet like Earth we'll have ways of protecting the ecology when we colonise it, assuming it's not already full of sentient beings wondering how to protect their environment too.

yes more than likely.if something in Nature is a plague ,nature responds with diseases or preditors ,this is the law of Equilibrium or the law of harmony .
we are part of the same nature and are subject to the same laws ,so we can expect diseases ,and Natural disasters to cut us down a peg or two.
