Because if they don't go to school, they probably aren't students! That's what a student does, is go to school (excluding on-line courses, of course).

..because more and more places refuse to hire without a H.S diploma. As jobs become more competitive, more applicants than there are positions, bosses will be very careful who they hire. It costs a boss money to train and time to process the paper work and get the insurance on the employee. If the employee up and quits two weeks into the job, the business looses money. How many time does the boss want to do that. One of the things employers look for is the persons ability to "stick with it" or are they a quiter?
All jobs have some part which isn't fun and those who will be the best "risk" for the boss is who he will hire. Trick is, how do you convince him you will be reliable? One way is to show you got through the basic education system your country set up for you. In USA, well that would be H.S. It's not the only way, but looks like it is gonna be a gauge for a long time.

Education through high school helps us to learn basics skills for taking care of ourselves in the real world and is also supposed to teach respect and other values. The more education you have, the better your quality of living will probably be due to the jobs that are open to you. In general, education creates better quality of life and increases a country or area's economic value. This is because it is meant to create self-sufficient citizens who don't need to mooch off of others and who are capable of making good decisions. Lack of education undermines democracy because it decreases participation in the system and also creates citizens who may not make well-considered decisions. Churches create schools based on the principle that you have to have an education to read the Bible and thus to learn more about God. Historically before schools were available in many countries for those who weren't upperclass, young people still learned trades from their parents or through apprenticeships. Overall, I guess you could live without an education, but it sure helps to improve life.

To get an education, obviously! If you look around, it isn't difficult to see that an education is empowering. You don't see too many HS drop outs owning their own businesses or CEOs of a large corporations. Having the education it takes to give you what you want from life allows you choices in life.
Knowledge is power.
