this is indeed a portrait and perhaps taken with black and white film or a black and white setting on digital. i doubt it can be really categorized as a type of photograph since each photographer has their own ways of composing portraits. the angles captured and the placement of the man were just the style of the photographer. try finding the photographer and looking at some more of his works.

This would be considered black and white portrait photography. Portrait photography can be widely varied. This one has a very urban feel.
