Apparently at some point in history the French were know as having fowl mouths. I don't think today even think of it that way it's just an expression.

We often may say "excuse my german" as well. It means that we've just said a curse word and we're pinning the blame for its origin on some other country. It's kinda unfair. Another thing that makes us look conceited.

French people are protrayed to be pretty rude when it comes to language so they link the rude slur with the stereotype.

"Pardon my cussing." Said right after using a cuss word.
For some reason, "French" is an old-timey slang term for "cuss words".

"Please excuse my naughty language". Most of them don't mean anything offensive by it, it's just colloquial
