If more Muslims would publicly condemn the actions of terrorists and extremists, wouldn't they face less discrimination and stigma from the rest of the world? You would think all peace loving people would throw in together against all the violence out there. But from their silence, it appears that otherwise peaceful Muslims would rather be loyal to the violent extremists than to other peace loving peoples.

Anyone have any good ideas on the cause of this phenomenon?

Thanks, and if you think this is a good question, star me!

Many, many Muslim groups and individuals have publicly and openly condemned the terrorists attacks and groups without any ambiguity or hesitation.

Open your eyes, take a look, and you'll find the responses easily enough. It's no surprise that an overwhelming majority of terrorist attacks target predominantly Muslim areas.

Muslims have publicly condemned terrorists and their acts. The problem is with the media which does not cover these.
Something for your thought. When we encounter a problem, in order to find a solution, an effective solution, we have to get to the Root of the problem. No use blabbering "I have a problem, I am trying this I am trying that but the problem persists". When we get to the Root of the problem, we will be able to identify the Root cause and hence find a suitable solution.
Likewise, with regard to terrorism, tell me honestly, do you think the Root of the problem has been addressed? Are the terrorists demanding that you convert or be killed?
Think, friend. Its a political problem which had been made into a religious one because the people who are fighting are Muslims for the cause of their country. It is in fact not a religious battle. Are the Muslims fighting against Christians? If that was so, there would be more fights in the other part of the world. The Muslims are fighting against America. If only America minds its own business, much desired peace will be realised all over the world.
America is the Real culprit !

Good question. The Muslims need to find Peace and Protection for the innocent people who are suffering. Can't they see that a certain part of their culture is disruptive ?? Why can't they become United and Live in Peace ? If they can maintain this goal, then there is no need for outside UN help. It is the so called infidels that are trying to help the Muslim culture , find Peace.

Yes, we Muslim do speak out against terrorisms.

We strictly condemned those who manipulate the Islamic religion. It is sickening & outrageous, AS IF they are doing it on behalf of GOD.

And for Muslims like us who publicly oppose such acts are regarded as traitors/Kaffirs/murtads. The tension and emotionally engrossed sentiment could escalate to inexplicable terrorism acts as you witnessed today in Muslim world. And all at the expense of Islam and its rational societies.

Again, we do condemn, unfortunately not at greater coverage in your news.

i am an american muslim and i know whe denounce extremism in my masjid. as most muslims do. the problem is that our media and our govt wants to continue you inflame everyone else against islaam that all you will ever see is the negative side. they never talk to any everyday muslims. they only talk to the people whom they deem as acceptable muslims. they are purposely showing you the people that want you to associate with islaam. people say muslims are brainwashed but so is america. don't think that i hate my country b/c i don't but if we are supposed to have freedom of religion then why am i being persecuted in my country for choosing islaam as my religion. i don't bother anyone but aoccasionally someone will yell go back to your country and i have to inform them that i am american by birth and national. we pretend to be so tolerant but only if it fits in with white america. so we do speak up we just aren't as newsworthy as someone who goes on tv and says that muslim women are depressed and oppressed and are treated horribly. which is farther from the truth and since 9/11 everyone wants to just be ignorant. i can't even go to my local dairy queen w/o some ignorant person making a comment when all i wanted to do was enjoy my hawaiian blizzard. muslims come in all races and most of us are decent human beings trying to be good citzens, but i guess that's too boring.

Your point is completely valid and quite important.
While I believe that most Muslims are peaceful and wouldn't strap a bomb on themselves to kill others...
Most muslims also internally support those who do.

Welcome to religion.

Dear Sir,

Media are tools of deception. Don't base your judgement of someone elses "research".
