As a skin specialist i get asked this quite alot. The reason you get pimples is because of an imbalance within the skin - either caused by your hormones (which make your oil sticky and the mix of dead cells and oil cause a clog which traps infection in), harsh products (sorry proactive), lack of a custom skin routine and poor diet/lack of water/lack of exercise.
Every skin is different so what works for one wont work for another, however the best way to find out whats best for your skin is to pop into a skincare centre which does skin analysis (Ella Bache specialises in this) and have them have a look at your skin with a woods lamp or skin scanner. This tool will show you how oily/dehydrated/damaged/healthy/infected your skin is and then your therapist can tailor a routine to siut you.
Harsh products will unbalance your skins barrier function and make it unable to fight infection. If your product contains a high percentage of enzymes/acids, or makes your skin feel dry/tight/sweaky clean then its not right for even your feet. Chuck out toners - if you have a good cleanser then you wont need this.
ProActive is based on an acid that bleaches your skin and dries out the oil because they believe the oil it the problem but really your oil is your skins main defence against bacteria when its healthy. Proactive will bleach your hair and skin and make any scarring more apparent and while it will fix the problem it will make your skin so fragile and damaged that you'll age so much faster than someone who doesn't.
Cleanser - use a non-foaming cleanser morning and night. To prep for your moisturiser and to cleanse away the dirt and bacteria thats fallen on your skin from the air.
Treatment Cream - the worlds best pimple treatment cream is ELLA BACHE INTEX 2 and thats not because i work there. its why i work with ella bache actually. It's why i feel in love with the brand. it costs $46 for a tube that will last for 2 years! and it works miracles.
Moisturiser - Use something that will help to rebalance your pH levels and strenghten your skin.
Exfoliate - 1-2xwk only. Gentle scrubs (try something thats either a peel that you put on like a mask then buff off with your fingers or something thats got ROUND beads like silica beads. If its not smooth round beads its scratching your skin - BAADD!
Mask - calming, soothing and antibacterial. after exfoliating.
PICKING PIMPLES CAUSES MORE PIMPLES AND SCARRING!!!! think, as you squeeze, your actually pushing the majority of the infection back into the skin and it will come up right next door and cause scarring because your exploded the pore. Depending on how deep the scarring is exfoliating is good, however most of the time the only effective and safe way to have the scarring removed without causing more damage to the skin is to have an IPL photo facial. It simulates the skins natural healing responses so unlike intensive peels that take off layers of skin your skin is doing what it would do naturally. It will also help with clearing any acne thats still there.
Eat a healthy diet full of friuts and veggies especially the red ones because they help with inflammation and infection, take vitamin c and e (they help with infection and healing) and drink loads of water and exercise. Also change your pillowcase every 3 days (infection breeds and spreads)

Aspirin Masks are GREAT for pimples....
just wet about 5-6 aspirin w/ water and make a paste...apply to your face (after cleansing) and let sit for about 15 minutes...then rinse!
Don't know if you're talking about dark scars left over from pimples (even though w/ the asprin mask, your pimples won't leave a scar) or what...but Triluma (available by prescription only) worked really well for me...you can also try a TCA Peel..i order from Julie Robbins.. www.perfectcomplexion.net GOOD LUCK TO YOU (c:

Chemical peel. It uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the skin by removing its damaged outer layers such as pimples and scars. It works by removing the outer most layer of scarred skin, thus fading the scarring.

Proactive works for some and does not work for other like me. I used murad, too and it didn't work... So i kept reading things on Y/A about Tea Tree Oil.. this is how i use it. Wash your face with warm water to open pores, and mix tea tree oil in your cleanser. Wash off face with warm water, then splash cold water to close pores. After your face dries, put tea tree oil on a cotton ball, but u might want to dilute it in water, or you don't have to, then apply to your face. AFter your face dries grab a lotion that you can put on your face and add tea tree oil to that too. Also, you can use a q-tip to put tea tree oil on the pimples that are inflamed to make them shrink really, really fast. u can apply it to the pimple like 5 times a day with the q-tip... it really works... TEA TREE OIL only worked for me!!!!
