If bulking up isn't your goal, then you really are wasting your money on creatine. The most important things are: 1) Follow a smart diet. Not a fad diet, just eat light healthy meals, and make sure that you get enough protein. 2) Don't be afraid to lift heavy and hard. Without a bodybuilder-style diet, you won't bulk up. Instead, you'll build the lean muscles that you're looking for. Dinking around with a 5-ounce dumbbell won't help much, you have to challenge yourself.

creatine is for strength training and for competitive athletes who are involved in sports that require all out physical exertion like sprinting, rowing, etc. if you are not training for strength then you don't need creatine, although it is perfectly safe and beneficial for women to take

There should be directions on the container to tell you how to take it. One thing that creatine does is it causes you to gain water weight. That may not be the thing for you.
