It is a situation where you can wear any type of material - gold, silver, plastic, surgical - but still get swelling and fluid run-off after a while.

How long have you had the ears pierced, are they completely healed? It sounds like your body is reacting to the material in the earrings. Wear real gold and leave them in for a while, like at least a two weeks. Frequent changing of your earrings while your ears are trying to heal, keeps them sore. I've had my ears pierced for fifty years, but if I leave cheap earrings in for more than a day, my ears get sore. I wear good gold wires most of the time. Change them when I am going out, but if just around the house, I always leave the good gold ones in the holes. Wires are better than studs when your ears are healing, because air can get to them easier. If your ears are pus filled, put a hot wet washcloth on them and clean them with alcohol or peroxide.
