Typically the bridesmaids host the bridal shower. Sometimes cousins or aunts or coworkers may host too. The bride is just the guest of honor. The bride is typically not involved in any of the planning but they probably ask for her opinion on what she wants and then it's usually a surprise.

No, it's not the bride, she is the honouree. Whoever is having the shower is the hostess - can be the mom, MIL, sisters, etc.
