Hello. I am a parent to a 14 year old boy. He is a very good student, and recently his grades have improved even more. He is now at the top of his class in High School and getting a 4.0 average (his best before this report card was 3.54). Lately, he has been coming home later, and later, when i called him on his cell phone, he said he was at a good friends house and he would be back before 10 pm, but he didn't show up until almost midnight. I have given him general talks about girls, drugs and sex, etc. However, this is not what he is in to. He has been attending meetings at his friends house about trying to get out a message. i don't know what this message is, but i am afraid it has cult undertones. His "myspace" heroes list is Lenin, Stalin and Maya Angelou.. I know he is interested in communism and government, but i didn't think he might be a cult member until i heard he was prasing Jim Jones on a message board and even planning far-fetched trips to Guyana.

I would find out exactly what is going on. If you think that his friend and his parents are involved in some kind of religious cult you need to get any and all info that you can on this group. Cults can be very damaging to people's minds and it is hard to get people out of them because they are so extremely brainwashed. I might even go as far as getting him some professional help and possibly placing him in a military or private school and removing him from the influence of these people.

It could just be an obsession with certain ideas of communism. However, I would find out what is really going on.

P.S. If he likes history so much, but not from a book, plan a trip to a historic place or a museum or something historical for about 3-5 days showing him the lighter sides of politics Martin Luther King Jr. and tell him that these people protested their beliefs illegaly in the streets so that people nowadays would be able to do things like that in an office without any bad things happening.

First, are there any events going on inside your home, a move, divorce, etc..I realize any child can be led astray and I am not placing "blame". A shakeup of his normal life inside the home could lead him to look elsewhere. If that is a non point, then what about him? His grades are good, but when was the last time you spoke about how he is feeling? Is he happy in school, with his friends, any falling out with friends? Cutting him off from these people is a good idea. I am sure you want to snatch up him and protect him...I would want to. Is it the right idea...that is the problem. Would it be making it more glamorous to him? With something as controlling as a cult you really need to get to the root of the problem. Why is he searching this out. I suggest dealing with that and having a face to face with the friends "parents" who are letting this occur at their home. Perhaps, these parents are part of the problem. Sadly, you have to be more devious that the cult members if you want to sucessfully rid them of control.

Melissa Scott does not have a cult, as your deacon says. She does not say or carry forth something that may not at once out of the Bible. Her congregation is somewhat-knowledgeable, with vivid minds. Her concentration on historic languages can at circumstances be confusing, yet her coronary heart's interior the wonderful place. Her previous due husband replaced right into a great preacher and instructor. She is wearing on his artwork as superb she will.

Talk to him! Ask him questions, find out what his "message" is, and for goodness sakes, go to one of these "meetings" yourself. When I was his age, I too was very interested in far out politics and religions. I joined a few groups with wacky ideas. But I tended to move from one thing to another. Perhaps he will too. BUT for your peace of mind you need to find out what is going on. Talk to the parents of the kid whose house the meetings are at. Ask for more information, and, if you feel that things are being hidden from you, you must put a stop to his involvement. See if you can talk to someone from a Cult Watch organization for more information on mind control.
