Assume you've already been given the tools to make fire and clean water.

Which of these items would you choose and why? You can only choose one number.

1) 5 chicken hens
2) 1 cow
3) Year supply of enriched rice
4) a banana tree

Lets assume that the hens lay eggs and cows produce milk. ok. discuss.

when I meant deserted, i meant both no life and no plants. no friggin coconuts trees.

I would have to choose the 5 chicken hens....I would get my source of protein eating their eggs & I would catch fish in the sea....find vegetatation somewhere on the island. I have water to drink .....I wouldn't want the cow....don't need all that beef or milk....enriched rice has no health value because it has been enriched....no protein or fiber what so ever in it. banna 's are okay....but not much value there either....I'd go track down a coconut tree drink the milk....eat the meat from the coconut....I've been on a couple islands & there are lots of trees that grow fruit....so between the chickens, the eggs, the water, & fish in the sea....& fruit I would find I could survive....anyone could.

Definately #3 a year supply of enriched rice. Using the rice and natural roots from plant life on the island, and adding fish i catch from the sea, I could eat like a king for a year.

3. year supply of enriched rice....this would last much longer than 5 chicken hens and the cow...even though the banana tree may provide a source of energy, the rice would last longer.

#4, a banana tree. I did a project last year where I found out you would have to eat ~28 everyday to survive on a deserted island...but that would be to get enough water. so assuming i already have water, and the fact that i absolutely hate bananas, i guess i would choose the enriched rice. that would be SO gross to have to kill the chickens/cow and cook them..eww...plus i dont eat beef. sooo...

It came down to rice or banana tree because the hens would be gone fast & what would I do with a whole cow, once I killed it? So which would I rather eat for a whole year: rice or bananas? Hmmm...I'd have to go with...Bananas.

I would not choose the rice. Too much simple sugar carbs. I don't wanna get fat on a deserted island.

I'd choose the hen or the cow for the protein.

year supply of enriched rice. because i could guarantee that i have something to eat for the whole year. unlike the other items, they are not guaranteed, maybe the chickens, cows dies before one year and so with banana tree.

i guess i would take the rice---maybe i would get lucky and catch some fish or find some veggies to go with it

the chickens or cow would be nice but i don't want to eat eggs or drink milk for a year---and i know damn well i don't have the heart to kill them
