What's wrong with gluten? It has a lot of protein and I can't find anything bad on it. Why do people exclude it from their diets?

1. Some people have an intolerance to it and it makes them sick (Celiacs disease).

2. Gluten is not healthy if a person eats too much of it. It is literally like glue when processed in your body. When too much is present, your body starts to attack it to get rid of it. Because it is similar in structure to the cartilage in your joints, your body can also start attacking your cartilage, and you can develop arthritic-like symptoms. (This happened to one of my best friends, and she had to eliminate all gluten from her diet. It took about a month for her body to heal.)

Most of the time, it's for medical reasons.

However, I have a coworker who has recently taken gluten out of her diet...she did so after studying the subject, due to her mother's medical issues. She has lost a ton of weight since doing it, and only just barely misses it, so it seems like a good thing for her.

There are a lot of people who are allergic to gluten. Gluten is mostly found in wheat products. If you're not allergic, then it's good for you.
