I will tell you from personal experience, that helping a loved one so close to you such as a boyfriend or a husband quit smoking is going to be Very hard at times.
One thing i did not expect was the rapid change of mood swings that come with withdrawal from any substance. That to me was the hardest to put up with but also the most helpful thing that i coulda done. Putting up with it and remembering that this was a physical change that he was putting himself thru because his body was so used to getting the nicotine.
And also be prepared to be looked at as the bad guy from time to time. When he Begs for that "One drag," say No regardless of what he says or thinks of you after. Its the addiction talking.
My husband didnt use over the counter or prescription aides, so it was harder for him even tho he wont admit. He stayed clean from nicotine for many months, then his chainsmoker sister came to visit for a few days and i was stupid enough to let him "bond" with his sibling over a cigarette. Needless to say after that day, his will power went down the drain. So dont be fooled also, because He will be fooling Himself when that time comes. It takes much longer to break a substance habit.

All in all i guess what i m trying to say is Just be there for him, be strict, and be loving ALways :)

Well, you tell him that you care about him and would like him to stop smoking and will help find support and it is making you nausea, nose congested, sore throat, and headache every time he smokes and you don't want to have to leave the relationship, but if he is not willing to sacrificed his willingness to quit then the relationship will have to be broken up due to health concerns. If he is not willing to do that, then he has no concerns respect for others people health even if they have allergies, asthma, or lung problems.

Do nothing but be supportive, the only way the beat one of the most highly addictive drug and the most deadly drug in the world, nicotine. Worse than plain tobacco the cigs sold today have chemicals poison in them, to help them burn evenly, a be more addicting.

He must want to quit. The patch or gum or etc help. But you have to have great desire to beat it. Most fail at first. But it is

you can't make someone quite until they're ready. But you CAN encourage him and let him know you'll be supportive if he wants to quit.

Is there something you can give up or start doing that would be a little hard for you? (for me, it would be running.) Maybe if you challenge yourself with something, and you both can help each other stick to your new lifestyle, he won't feel as bad about it.

give him sex every time he wants a cigarette, soon he'll be so exhausted that he won't want a smoke ( do you know what some people do after sex?)

actually, get the patch , it worked for me, cut the patches in half each week until you don't need them. and don't give in to that temptation to have " just one drag"

Cut this one loose, and replace him with a boyfriend who never started smoking.

We're all stupid about something, but most of us don't show it on our faces five minutes out of every thirty.

You can't. He has to want to do it. You might let him know how bad he smells though.
