CD-R is a CD you can use only one time! You can copy files out of it but you can not transfer or delete files off it.
CD-RW is a rewritable CD which you can use many times. You can erase (format) it and restart again as many times as you want (1000 times guaranteed).

Recordable disks do not behave like a regular hard drive or a floppy or flash drive. You can only record to them with a cd/dvd burning program. Once a file is burned to cd, there it is, and it cannot be written to or deleted.

So to edit a file and save the file as edited, you have to copy the file off the cd onto your computer, edit it, save it, and then if you want it on a cd, you have burn it again.

Hi, you have to specify what software are you using.
What CD you are trying to rewrite or delete.
If you just talking about CD's which you make on your own, than you have options, in almost every soft, live it open(to be able add more recordings) or close session( not be able to rewrite.
